Q & A Spotlight On: YouTube Guru HollywoodNoirMakeup

Q: What inspired you to start your career in the beauty industry?

I think I have always been enthralled by the creative freedom of makeup. I started out modeling at a young age and was always involved in various performing arts such as theatre and dance throughout school. It became very clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in the arts and I think makeup is something that can be translated into many different avenues of work. There is always the chance to do editorial, theatrical or even television and film makeup. I like that there are different options available, as I tend to get restless very easily. I also love seeing the transformation process that people go through, not just physically but emotionally.I have met with people whom have shared their physical discontent and issues of low self-esteem and if I can help make them feel confident about themselves even for a moment, then that makes me feel like I've contributed something worthwhile.

Q: What inspired you to start your own YouTube channel and blog?

I think the main reason was to utilize the knowledge I had gained throughout my various experiences in the beauty industry to help teach people not only how to apply makeup, but to inspire them to create. I think when you have a passion for something, it becomes contagious. I have always loved the complexities and resourcefulness within the art of makeup and watching other YouTube makeup artists definitely forces me to challenge my own abilities. We can all learn from one another and I think we should remain receptive to trying new things and exploring our own creative capabilities. I also am a great advocate of individual expression and I hope that my alternative influences and makeup looks can aid in showcasing the many different ideals of beauty in the world, whether it be for different subcultures or otherwise.

Q: How has your life/career changed since starting your YouTube channel?

I have certainly had the opportunity to meet some wonderful artists and try products that I may not have been exposed to if I hadn't started a channel, so it has been a very positive experience for me so far. I think what has changed most is the amount of feedback I receive from my subscribers. I receive such heartfelt messages and it really does mean the world to me because I wouldn't be where I am without all of you! It definitely has encouraged me to follow my dreams and gives me the confidence needed to continue making videos that hopefully help anyone that is so gracious to take the time to watch.

Q: Who are your favorite beauty guru's and why?

I have so many artists that inspire me on a daily basis, so it's hard to name all of them in one interview. I would say one of my favorites is goldiestarling for her sheer precision and overall quirky brilliance. Angie and I have come to admire one another because we have such similar taste, but the difference is she is producing work that is on such a highly professional level, that I think it leaves everyone in awe, including me. I also really enjoy LisaFreemontStreet for her beautiful and authentic vintage hair styles. Anyone that watches my channel knows how much I admire old Hollywood and she epitomizes the grace of that particular era with such effortlessness!

Other beauty gurus that I love and admire are: LetzMakeup, glitterdollz7, Pixiwoo,Claire0147 , DelyriaPhoto, CrazyHappy08, Profoundtorture, NosebleedBaby andanaarthur81 - all for their wonderfully alternative, stunning and unique use of makeup.

Q: What are your top 3 favorite products and why?

This is such a difficult question. I have many products that I love, but if I had to narrow it down I would have to say MAC's Russian Red lipstick, Lancome's Teint Miracle Foundation and the MAC Penultimate liquid liner in Rapidblack.

Q: If you had any recommendations for girls wanting to start their own beauty blogs or YouTube channel, what would you recommend?

First of all I would like to say that it takes a lot of courage to start your own channel. I find it to be a very intimate part of my self expression, so I encourage anyone that is considering the idea to make sure that you remain true to yourself and your work. People will always try to criticize your methods and ideas, but remember that there will be those worthwhile people who support you no matter what. I think it is important to remain confident and passionate and that will most certainly shine through above all else. So, do what you love, put all of your energy and effort into it and don't be afraid to step outside of the box. It's those that have the strength to do something different that stand out from the rest!
