Tila Nguyen, previously known by her stage name "Tila Tequila," has been a gossip magazine poster girl and paparazzi's dream. Model, singer and reality show star, Tila hit her lowest of lows last year after her fiance, heiress Casey Johnson, passed away. That's when she realized that she needed a break and took a step back from the entertainment industry to concentrate on improving her life both emotionally and physically. Refreshed and back with a new glamorous look and style, Tila finally feels confident and comfortable in her own skin. Landing a hilarious faux interview with Zach Galifianakis and Jennifer Aniston in the "Between Two Ferns" series on FunnyOrDie.com (where she looked absolutely foxy), Tila is on a roll with new gigs and promotions. We like the new swanky Miss Tila!
We love the fresh new look Tila! How do you feel about the new beauty style you're rocking now?
Just fabulous! The face is the first thing people notice when you meet someone. I don't use too much make-up on a daily basis anymore and it has given me a huge boost in confidence! Sure it's fun to glam it up every once in a while, but natural beauty is always best. A big beautiful smile is what brings them in, so smiling a lot is not only good for your mental state, but it also shows people that you're a happy and fun person to be around. So smile!
Do you feel like your new style and makeup inspired a whole new you?
I would have to say that it wasn't the changing of my look that brought on the new me, but the new me is what brought out the new image. It's my inner beauty!
You have come a long way your original days of import modeling and car shows. How do you feel about the old "Tila Tequila"?
I will always love the old Tila, since without her, I wouldn't be the Tila I am now. However, that chapter of my life is closed and everything happens for a reason, so I can't be mad at that.
We heard that instead of a whole beauty crew, you apply your own makeup. Even at your most recent photoshoot, you created your own look by yourself. What do you enjoy about doing your own makeup?
Because I have a unique bone structure and my complexion is a bit different, I like doing my own makeup. Sometimes what looks great on others, will look horribe on me. For instance, I would love to use super shimmery and silverly types of eyeshadow since they look so beautiful on other women. However, heavy shimmer looks so wrong on me! I've also been doing my make-up for over 10 years now and I've learned a few tricks from a few makeup artists along the way. Overall, I personally know what colors looks best on me and what doesn't. I like to keep it classic and simple and I generally go for more brown and peachy tones.
Do you have any insecurities about yourself that you have learned to love?
I was made fun of as a kid because I had really high cheekbones, but now I've learned to embrace my bone structure. Some makeup artists try to give their clients an illusion of a higher cheekbone so I guess you can say, I no longer feel bad about having high cheekbones!
Your skin constantly looks flawless and glowing. What's the secret to your skincare routine?
I used to have terrible skin at one point in my life, but recently I have been drinking tons of water! Drinking a lot of water is not only good for you in general, but it also keeps your skin hydrated and gives it a natural healthy glow. I wash my face every morning and night with a milky base cleanser that makes my face feel extremely soft afterwards. I always follow up with a thin layer all over my face, and then the last step is to moisturize!
This differs from person to person but when do you feel your most beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when I take off all of my makeup at night before I go to bed and tie my hair in a bun.
What are your top beauty products that you just cannot live without?
I absolutely cannot live without my makeup remover wipes, false eyelashes and my Chapstick. You never know when you're gonna meet that special someone and you want to make sure you have soft lips for that amazing first kiss!
You have also updated your wardrobe. Spill to us some of your favorite brands?
A couple of the lines that I love are Valentino, Dolce & Gabana, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Max Azria. Of the more affordable brands, I love Bebe because they have clothes in size 00, which is a very hard size for my petite self to find!
How would you describe your style now?
I'm all about bringing back classy, demure and girly-girl looks, so right now I'm loving beautiful flowy dresses with low necklines. They scream sexy, but you're still leaving some things to the imagination and not giving it all away. Plus, these flowy dresses are extremely comfortable to wear and you can pair them with any accessory!
