Boys At The Makeup Counter

"Boys Will Be Boys" by Undercover Beauty Agent

It's hard to believe, but I've assisted a fair share of dudes during my years working in the department store's cosmetics section. And these were not guys you'd ever imagine shopping for makeup. But boys will be boys—they tend to do naughty things, and then try to cover their tracks. Why would a guy's guy ask for my help at a cosmetics counter? Because I’m their salvation from getting into trouble with their parents.

I had a nervous pair of teenage guys visit me one day. Clearly, this was their first time approaching a beauty advisor. They were awkward, super tall, and radiated such tension I thought they’d scare other shoppers away.

The first guy had a black eye and a few cuts. The second had quite a few hickeys on his neck and some deep purple bruises. I thought that they would be too embarrassed to ask for help, but they made a beeline in my direction. They wanted me to over up the bruises and hickeys.

Relief can change a person’s entire aura. The two guys visibly relaxed when they realized I could help them, but the hickeys looked like a nightmare to cover. I even asked a co-worker for an extra hand. Trying to make your clients feel comfortable is vital as an artist. I did the best I could by asking the boys how they received the battle scars. After they happily filled me in on a wild and crazy graduation party, they begged for help because they would be in a lot of trouble if their parents found out they were fighting.

Of course, I couldn’t let my clients down. I started by trying to cancel out the blue and purple tones in the bruises with a salmon colored corrector. When that didn’t work, I moved on to a powder foundation, which just looked ashy. I tried to conceal as much as I could, but nothing seemed to work. Frustrated and annoyed, I grabbed a concealer from each makeup counter.

This was the day I discovered Laura Geller’s Real Deal Concealer. I tried the concealer on a whim, and it really was the “real deal.” A little goes a long way with this product. It’s a full coverage concealer that lived up to its name.

One of boys actually bought it in case he ever ran into any more trouble! I just hope he didn’t have a joint account with his mom.
