Bobbi Brown’s new holiday collection, Caviar & Oyster, is a classic example of what Brown is known for: timeless, easy, mix-and-matchable neutrals that work for everyone. "It's all about combining different textures and finishes,” the makeup artist, author, and CEO explains. The collection’s juxtaposition of dark, smoky earth tones paired with ethereal glitter remind us of a sparkly pink mini-skirt matched with sexy, beat-up Docs. It’s unexpected, edgy, and sweet all at once. Here are some of our favorites from the line:
The centerpiece of the holiday collection is its namesake: the Caviar & Oyster Palette. The left drawer contains four light neutrals: a matte oyster, a matte light taupe, a shimmery pink, and a sparkly gray. The right drawer kicks it up a notch with a matte heather gray, a deep espresso, a shimmery steely plum, and a sparkly white-gold. The glittering shades are perfect for holiday parties, and the matte shades are just neutral enough to be classic. The bottom component stores Ballet, a sparkly pink highlighter brick. Sweep on with a fan brush for a more subtle sheen, or go full ice queen with a bronzing brush. Bonus: dab Ballet with your fingers on top of lip gloss in the center of the lower lip for some serious long-lasting sparkle.
Bobbi hasn’t forgotten her famously plush lips. Five limited edition gloss shades include Pink Oyster, a disco-glitter pink, Oyster, a soft silver, and Black Pearl, an icy mauve that looks greyish and pearly in the tube but wears surprisingly sheer on the lips. The shades also include two limited edition brightening glosses infused with light-refractive particles, making them the ideal translucent topper for this season's dark lips. Moonlight Pearl looks metallic in the tube but sweeps with a hint of rose shimmer, and White looks opaque in the tube but goes on with a non-sticky, glass-like finish.
The Uber Nude Lip & Eye Palette, a separate addition the to holiday collection, caught our eye as well. The palette houses three matte shadows perfect for the polished, natural look: Navajo, a sandy white; Downtown, a light taupe-brown; and Espresso, a rich, dark brown that can be used as a soft liner or built up into an earthy, smokey eye. In the other panel is a creamy nude lip and a sparkly pink gloss, and tucked into the center is a mini nude glitter gloss with a doe-foot applicator. This pint-sized palette is great to toss into your party clutch for touch-ups, and at only $30, makes a great go-to gift for anyone on your list.
The holiday collection is quintessential Bobbi: universally flattering shades in fun, playful textures for a festive twist. It doesn’t hurt that the packaging is purse-friendly and adorable. The wearability of these colors will ensure a place in your palette rotation long after the decorations come down.
