Avacodo, cinnamon, honey, nutmeg and lemon juice masks. Just mix half an avocado, however much honey cinnamon and nutmeg you want and some lemon juice and leave it on for however long you want. It works like a charm (:

Yes definitely patch test any DIYs. Something that works for someone may not work for you because everyone's skin is different! Another tip is to drink lots of water! I feel it helps me alottttttt personally. ☺️ And also yes^ if yours medium severe a derm would be one of your best bets.

I went to a dermatologist to help with my acne and scarring and tbh they didn't help all that much. But I started branching out and trying stuff like the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and the Mario Badescu whitening mask and found that my skin really liked it. And exfoliating! That's done wonders to clear my skin. If I were you, I'd go to a derm but if that doesn't work I'd just try other skin products (after doing some research on reviews and such).

The way to clear up skin takes lots of time, patience, and determination! I'll give you a few tips to get you started.
1. Start by making sure you are exercising (cardio at least 4 times a week, 60 mins) and eating clean. What you put in your body reflects on the outside. If you ate processed junk food, it will show in your skin. A healthy lifestyle is a great way to help clear up skin.
2. Drink a load of water! Water is another thing that really helps hydrate you and makes skin glow. Green tea is another awesome beverage that is known to helpful when dealing with acne.
3. Get into a usual face routine. I typically use a gentle cleanser in the morning with a benzoyl peroixde spot treatment, and then apply moistruizer mixed with argan oil. At night I use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser and follow up with a thick moistruizer. I find benzoyl peroxide to be the only thing that helps with my acne, but as a consequence, it is very drying so I have to use a good moistruizer.
4. Try looking at a face chart for your acne as it can tell you the causes of why your acne is where it is. Just search acne face chart on Google.
5. Try a face mask once or twice a week. For acne I love the Lush Mask of Magnamity. GlamGlow also makes an amazing mask for acne. Look around the web for reviews on the best mask for acne and scarring.
6. Be patient! It can take up to 6 months for acne scars to begin to fade. Whatever you do, don't force things. Don't pop pimples or try harsh scrubs just to get rid of it as fast as possible.
7. Usa an SPF! They protect skin and really help lighten scars and makes skin glow.
Good luck!

I agree that consulting a derm and being treated by an excellent derm are entirely different experiences; recon pays off. Yelp and Foursquare can be helpful guides when seeking out skincare, as can the local paper or magazines that thoroughly explore their practice. A clear indication of a great derm is results or a referral to someone more qualified to treat a condition.
I refrain from applying acidic fruits on my skin or cinnamon. I have used honey, but one may have an adverse reaction so proceed with caution and always test patch your skin products...including store purchases.
A face wash with salicylic acid or tea tree oil may be of great help. I'd counter both with a gentle moisturizer like CeraVe. I'd also limit their use to evenings, using CeraVe hydrating wash in the mornings. Mederma is effective for scars, but you may see better results from a series of light peels. This would address both of your skin concerns simultaneously. It baffles me that some are willing to drop serious cash on expensive boots, clothing, hair or dining out yet bawk at the notion of investing in peels or a skincare specialist in general. A licensed, reputable Esthetician often offers sound skin care advice and treatment for much less than a derm. Perhaps you should explore peels via that route.
Lastly, heredity, diet and routine play pivotal roles in skin health. 100% cotton pillowcases changed every 3rd day is an inexpensive way to begin positive change. Drinking green tea (or making a cool rinse with it) helps battle inflammation and detox the liver. Sunscreen, giving skin a breather from make up whenever you can, and staying hydrated are also simple steps you can take toward positive change. On a last note, Bio Oil contains mineral oil which can clog pores and bring on even more acne. Best of luck to you.

My secret to clear skin is being gentle to my skin. I don't use any washes or lotions that have acne fighting purposes. When I get pimples I just spot treat them. I use all Origins products on my face. For me I think it is one of the best skincare brands as it is non irritating and contains beneficial plant ingredients. I am a big fan of removing makeup with the oil cleansing method, but when I made my own oil face wash, I could never get it right and my pores would always get clogged. I got the origins Clean Energy oil face wash and it has changed everything! I have never purchased the same face wash so many times in a row I can't ever imagine washing my face at night without anything else. No need for wipes or even eye makeup remover pads, just wash you face with this oil and it emulsifies everything completely off and leaves your skin soft.
Also, I find green tea helps keep skin looking good. They make green tea suppliments if you don't want to drink the tea.
ALSO! Omega 3 fatty acids are important in every woman's diet. If you consume more of these it can make a world of a difference from the inside out. I recently found out I have an underactive thyroid, I have been suffering from it for a while without proper diagnoses. I was told to add these into my diet. They can be:
Avocados
Coconut milk products
Fish oil suppliments
(and my fave) Evening Primrose Oil suppliments
They have all made a huge difference but the evening primrose oil really turned things around for me. This type if essential fatty acid regulates your hormones so if you have hormonal break outs, it will take care of that. Since adding it not only is my skin crystal clear, but I feel less depressed, my scalp that was red and inflamed for 5 months with hair shedding is now no longer red at all and doesn't hurt. My period cramps are less?! Everyone should include this suppliment.
Hope I could help :))!

I agree on the Omega 3. Salmon is packed with it, but you have to watch your intake because of Mercury. Blah You can find it in the vitamin isle. Glad to see some fellow Green Tea lovers. I swear; it's wonderful. Detoxes, boosts metabolism, reduces inflammation and it makes a great dry scalp and face rinse. I'd be lost without it.
Also, Vitamin C Serum will brighten your skin...giving you a natural glow. Yay for vitamins!
(and vodka) :P
