I feel like SO many companies are getting into the idea of putting more effort into their packaging rather than their products... for instance, Too Faced Candy Glow blushes are adorable but they didn't "wow" me and I couldn't believe I paid $30 for them... any of the M.A.C featured lines are just the same products with flashier, celeb endorsed packaging...
what have you purchased based on packaging that you could have saved the $ on? am I the only one?

I do for perfume. The bottles are so fancy and I fall in love with them and yeah the scent is okay but it doesn't actually last enough to be worth it

This is a really awesome question. Weirdly enough, I'm not so much of a sucker for packaging as I am a sucker for limited edition products. Like, I have 3 Urban Decay Book of Shadows, I have the original Vice, I have the Marc Jacobs summer 2014 palette called "The Siren,"all that sort of stuff. I can't get enough of things that are going to be discontinued at some point. The nice thing about LE stuff, though, is that usually the colors are different or new. The downside is that usually they're more expensive, which sucks...but no one will ever have it again, so I justify it lol.

Leslie I have done that too!!
Jacqlyn, I am such a sucker for interesting packaging but I agree, most of my favorite products are in plain packaging, I think my chocolate bar palette is the only exception.

LoL Hannah yes! I bought almost all the LE urban decay polishes thinking they'd be gone in a flash and they're still around. I don't even wear most of them and they're no different than my ORLY or L.A. Colors polish LoL.

Exactly, Rikki! I have all that sort of stuff, I can't help it it's like a compulsion!! Like the Bite Matte Lip Cremes, I adore them and they were LE so I can't help wishing I got more than 2!

Hmm that's interesting. They probably do. I heard a lot of girls are package fanatics and they play on that. But I must be the only one who doesn't care about it lol. I don't even look at it half the time. Give me an amazing product in a brown paper bag and I'm happy lol.

I've bought things just because they were cute lol but I don't buy expensive makeup anyway so it's not ever a big loss.

Jenni yes!! ChapStick brand is infinitely better than EOS but I got sucked in by the bright colors and unique ball shape. Curse you, packaging Gods! why do you deceive us so? lol.

I'm with Symone, function over form! 99% of the time, cutesy packaging takes up twice as much space as it needs to, and can even make the product harder to use. Not to mention the effect on price (all that extra stuff ain't free to manufacture). I would rather have an excellent product in ugly, plain packaging.

I agree with Emily and Symone. But at the same time, if it's the same product or close, I go for packaging. Like I was at superstore and I wanted to pick a lip balm, they only had two I liked. same size, same prize and same great ingredients. So instead of going with the plain white one I went with the one with the design on it lol. Unless it's under 5$(like a lipgloss or whatever), I go for product not packaging.
I am also a sucker for LE. Though I'm broke so I don't get to often. But when I've got money during the time an LE product is out, I always buy it lol.

Though I have to say, the MAC alluring aquatics collection that's out right now, the packaging is why I want to buy it most. I love the colors of the lipsticks and eyeshadows, but they aren't a one and only never going to see it again. But the packaging of the little water droplets is really neat. But if they were higher price, I probably wouldn't go for it. (Though I'm broke and can't anyways lol)

I kinda hate wasting money that I could spend on more make so I do things like go to the Mac pro store and buy things in the refill pans so it's cheaper lol.

Right on Emily!! If you ladies knew the low down dirty on packaging cost versus the actual product cost...its sickening. But its all a part of marketing to lure us beauties in. MAC aquatics ALMOST got me this morning. But after swatched everything and cross compared with lippie shades from perm. collection I took a pass. But that packaging was what got me.

I'm a sucker for a pretty perfume bottle! I've even brought empty perfume bottles of eBay and Etsy, such as the Jean Paul Gaultier one, as I could never afford the perfume but the bottle is gorgeous.
