Gigi, how am I making myself look bad? Because i'm expressing be opinion over and over just like others? Have you not noticed that i've been attacked, and talked down to, but haven't done that to anyone? I'm not the one making myself look bad at all. And did I say that people have talent can't show them off? No. You obviously misunderstood me like so many others have. I've been saying, if you can only do one look, that's not true talent, and it's annoying to hear people brag and go on and on over how great their skills are, when they are honestly lacking in any type of real skill. Obviously none of you can understand what i'm saying, because you're so set in the mindset that i'm some sort of hater or 'the bad guy' when i'm not at all.

@MEG B. I never said that in comments and all the artists you named where taught by older master or went to school. Picasso was taught by his father when he was 5 and still was a prodigy. One can learn their technique by themselves, young or old.

just don't watch them if you don't like them. simple as that. just as you have the right to choose what to watch or not, they have the right to film or not. they chose to film, you can choose not to watch.

Even if you can only do neutral looks you can still be a makeup artist, and it doesn't annoy me personally because no matter how good they think they are the proof is in the pudding

I'm a qualified make up artist but I never really branched out, I can do my make up nicely and a few special effects, I can also do other people's make up too, ive also worked for 2 big brands over 6 years , but because I never went out and freelanced I would never go around claiming I'm a 'make up artist' , and I certainly wouldn't put myself on you tube.

People take this way to seriously it's a great that to be a makeup artist and kit because you didn't shell out thousands of dollars to go to school or worked on hundreds of clients doesn't mean your not a ARTIST. Makeup is just another medium there too much hate going on people need to calm down and support each other or jut ignore it. I love makeup and I think of it as my artistry because its what I love doing. I hate when people tell me I can't be a MUA because I didn't go to school or whatever sounds like a bitter person to me who spent to much money on school and didn't nothing with it and hates seeing someone else be successful taking a different path. THAT is quiet annoying !

You guys posting after all this dont understand the original post like sooo many others. Im not talking of makeup artists, certified or not. Im talking about men and women who act like their skills are amazing, when in reality, skill is lacking and can only produce one look. Also, Margaret, when did the question of expenses come into play? I, and no one else have ever said on here you need expensive, high end makeup to be a makeup artist.

The original post/discussion definitely does not seem to be what is being discussed in the later posts. Maybe its just me or perhaps I have poor cognitive skills, but I don't think anyone, including myself, was trying to be rude or malicious at all, but it just appears that way through differences in comprehension of the original post snowballing out of control into something completely different. I think its just super duper hard for opinions written online to be comprehended as they were intended since we cannot decipher an actual tonality in voice or use visual and behavioral cues to further determine the tone and/or intent. Its just one of those difficult things, I think =/

I've noticed on beautylish, YouTube, Tumblr, etc. that the less you use emoticons and a high number of lol's and haha's, the more your posts will be considered snarky, disrespectful, etc. (I mean, look at how many of those are used by people accusing Vanessa, and how many are being used by Vanessa... you see the difference) I as well as many other people who rarely use those (at least with people we're not close with) have dealt with people thinking we're being snarky, etc. when we're just writing our post calmly behind the computer screen, but people will just throw out words about having an attitude, being disrespectful, etc. I've seen a few things that sounded very disrespectful, but that looked obvious because of the word choice. But overall, I saw Vanessa as someone just calmly typing away on her keyboard.

My "personal" opinion is if you have invested time into preparing a makeup kit, studying books, the internet, magazines etc.. You have already shown that you have passion!! From passion we can all grow as artists.
I am in cosmetology school at the moment, and while studying it, i get all the benefits. Pro cards to beauty suppliers, i cut clients hair (for a measly 8$ mind you), i color & more. No one in my time has EVER come up to me and said you are not a hairstylist, get out of here.
You have to start somewhere. So, point being yes, if you're 12 years old and trying to give advise on the internet, thats slightly annoying. But if you're 20 and have found your passion, working in the field or a counter (whatves) and preparing for your future, there is no one who can tell you that you aren't a makeup artist.

I don't get annoyed by it at all, the people I watch on YouTube never claim to be "amazing" or "professionals", some of them say before their tutorial starts that they aren't a professional so not every guru is claiming to be amazing. Just thought I'd put my two cents in haha
