It could have just been random. I worked at la senza and ever so many customers that came I'm got a similar treatment. Because ultimately we can figure out who'll steal based on how they look. But we were a lot more low key about it. We actually had special training as to how to "stalk" customers unknowingly... Haha I do it to random people in stores and then I'll let employees know if there's anything hidden on them haha drives my hubby crazy.

I wish the sephora stores were laid out better. Sometimes you can't help look suspicious while browsing! I'm sure I do.

I go in with my boyfriend and get odd looks all the time around Christmas it gets so bad though I think everyone's trying to make a sale and It basically looks like to them I'm walking around with a piggy bank (my boyfriend) which he only pays for my stuff when I ask which is rare I like being independent and I get multiple people coming up to me and asking if I need help several times it's overwhelming and makes me want to leave. 😔 you're friendly but please stop.

I work in retail, so I am familiar with the whole "stalking customers" thing. However, in our store we only ask if they need help once, then start recovering (making items neat on the shelf, collecting things that are out of place) near them so we can watch them. We are watching in case they are suspicious, but if they are a legitimate customer they don't feel smothered.
When I am a customer in a store and the people won't leave me alone, I just say "Thank you for the many offers of assistance; but if I have a question I will ask." They get the hint that I just want to shop without me having to scream GO AWAY.

I have a bad temper level when it comes to shopping so I've learned to basically 'entertain them'.
If I go to Sephora, it's because I want to buy or look at something. Usually I know what I'm buying or looking at... but I ask a million questions as if I'm clueless!
Last time I went, I was looking for the Electric Palette... I walked right in as ditsy as daisy and 'Oh, are there any bright colored palettes? Oh I heard about something called Urban Decay!! Here look I have a photo... Can I see it? Where's Urban Decay at? Oh what a pretty palette! Is it okay if I touch it? Wow how nice!
Oh and what are some good foundations for dry skin? ( uh huh uh huh lady I know what I'm doing ) oh so I heard XYZ foundation was great! Do you sell that here? Wow can you show me! Oh can I get a sample? Thanks!'
I entertain them as soon as I walk in... that way they don't harass me if I venture off on my own. Sometimes I'll even ask for a basket or something to hold the products lol. I hate being followed by them, they train people wrong. You do not assume criminal status based on look.
I've seen employees stalk police sergeants... I actually witnessed first hand racial discrimination against an officer at forever 21... they were even threatening to get security because they weren't there to 'assist her nor harass her'. Such nasty attitude these places have... If you're going to train employees.. train them with Law Enforcement Officials.. REAL TRAINING. Stop following police officers and sgts around just comes to show how much 'training' these employees really get.

The very first time I ever went to a sephora (inside a jcpenny) was horrible. I felt as if the associatr was following my every move. She asked so many times if I needed help and she just stared. I've gone to that same sephora a few more times and I always feel the same way.

I've been on the phone mid conversation telling my boyfriend what shop I was in and only just walked in to Mecca (not sure if Australia only has it, but its like the Australian Sephora) and I had an employee immediately get right in my personal space asking if I need help. If I needed help, I wouldn't ask for it while I'm on the phone? To me that was really rude. At least wait 5 minutes or so before you ask. She couldn't even wait to see what I was looking it..

I'm the same way as Kitty. I already know what I want going into a cosmetics store, but I just ask many questions and ask as if I have no clue what I want so they can leave me be once they help me. I'm real iffy about my personal space and being bothered while shopping, so to keep from lashing out on them, I entertain them as well.

They are always great to me at Sephora, but it may be because I ask questions...lol {legit} Ulta, however, it is hard to find someone helpful or knowledgeable there. I did notice that if I get dolled up before I go, everyone is nicer. I've had a pushy saleswoman there once or twice, but I handle it as Emily suggested. I embrace the attention I get there and soak up those samples. :)
It does sound like this particular woman is a crazy person...and speaking as one, myself...I'm highly offended by her lack of creative crazy. I give her one star.
