Hello ladies...
So I am still trying to figure out whether I should e-mail MAC or personally ask for a MAC store manager to speak to ( But sometimes bad work ethics come from bad managers!) This being the first bad experience with MAC at this particular location, even though it's one I've frequented.
About a week ago, I ventured into MAC to pick up another 217 brush, lip liner, and one of the Holiday Pigment sets.
When I walked up the counter, no one really gave me a glance as I was in work uniform, make up free, and did not look like the type of gal who would even wear lipgloss. ( Messy ponytail, Cargo pants, Combat boots, tucked in polo shirt with my belt. )
So I ended up going around the counter myself, because I was not worthy of MAC attention, and picking up some things my self *halo*.
It took about 15 minutes of me circling the counter with items in hand and looking at every sales associate who continued to pay no attention to finally ask me if I needed help, and only because she walked into me.
Finally, I told her what brushes I wanted... in which she actually asked me why I wanted the brushes and what did I want to use them for in a rather degrading tone( I guess I am not worthy of MAC brushes, either. )
So after telling her that I use the 217 a lot, and that I would like to buy another one since it is my favorite brush she asked to see my phone to see what looks I wanted to create, and then offered to sell me something more simple like lipgloss or lipstick. She even went as far as to gesture towards my phone to grab it, which I found to be personally unnecessary. She then proceeded to ask me if I knew what the brushes are used for, and that they are for make up.. not painting and that the 217 is a blending brush ( Its okay if you LOL at that part. )
I've been to MAC on many occasions, and I've never spent a good half hour going back and forth with someone when I made it very clear that I wanted to get my stuff and get out. I actually went to the MAC at Nordstorm today, no one argued as to why I shouldn't buy a brush and not in a degrading tone. I've been to the one at Nordstorm many times with/without make up and they have never treated me like the other particular location.
Any thoughts ladies?

I feel like service is always hit or miss with me at mac. I work in the mall so I've gotten to know a few of the ladies. But sometimes they're pushy and rude and act like you don't know a thing about makeup when thats totally untrue.
I feel like in your situation, the girl went way too far and thats unacceptable. I would email head office and request the district or regional managers phone number and give her a call. My mom is a regional manager for a store and she actually doesn't mind getting calls like that because it helps her with her own job. They might even offer you something in return, but regardless I think you should contact managment. I'm sorry that you had to endure that disrespect:(

In my opinion I'd want the manager to know about how displeased I was if this had happened to me, someone questioning what I'm going to do with a brush would annoy me up the wall haha! And them grabbing for your phone, to me that's in appropriate in any form especially from a stranger so to speak lol. :)

This is my thought on it, you wanted ateention and you finally got it and didnt like it, you wanting to be a cop should know to have no expectations so the fact that you expect for someone to be a certain way is not right on your part, but the sales person shouldnt have acted that way either

I've been to Mac one time in the mall boy they were very snobby towards my friends because they don't wear makeup and then one of my friend wanted to purchase some lipstick and they said they were all sold out... Even though she was holding the exact lipstick in her hand... I personally don't bother with costumer service there anymore I just grab what I want and stare someone down until they come to the till...

Inexcusable. I would write MAC Corporate. I'm so very sorry for your experience.

I would talk to the manager, I had a similar experience just a few days ago at Claire's looking for nose studs/rings, the associate saw me walk in and didn't even greet me, and while I was looking through the piercings she was standing an inch from me and would not look my way or offer to help, I just walked out because I didn't want to give her my business. It's not a matter of asking for attention but the fact that they're being paid to satisfy the customer and offer assistance

Omg how rude. If I were you I would have asked for the manager there and would have speaked with them. Whenever I walk into a Sephora the girls are always so rude and making faces. Idk why they act like that even girls that work at Mac inside the Macys where I live act like that. I have no idea why they act like they are so better than us just because they work there man things like this just get to me lol. If someone wants to work at a makeup place they should not act like that because there supposed to be serving us the customers. You did nothing wrong on your part it was just them (:

I wouldn't have left the store, I would've talked to the manager right then. Absolutely inexcusable. If it were me, when she asked about knowing what the brush was for, I would've looked her dead in the face and said "Do you?" and see what she said. And grabbing for your phone? WTF is that about?? I would've slapped her hand.
Definitely email corporate. That employee needs to be trained about working in customer service, and the manager of that location needs to be woken up about how the employees are treating customers.

I agree with the ladies. That is unacceptable. I'm sorry you had this experience, Kitty 😭

I don't think kitty was in the wrong for expecting something better than what she got. The employee is in retail, at that customer services as it is a counter, so you should expect to be treated great. What a snob. Sorry you had to deal with that. I've had my fair share of that at at a MAC store once. I don't understand who they think they are lol.

I honestly would've punched her if she grabbed at my phone
Similar things happen to me at sephora because I'm 16 and because I'm young people assume I don't know what makeup is for
I would've talked to the manager
I hope next time you go to MAC things are better for you

I would definitely talk to somebody personally because they will see how upset you were rather than through email where they can't see your emotion, I would also contact MAC & tell them the situation. That attitude pushes customers away-.- sorry you had to deal with that rude person :/

Thank you ladies for the opinions on the matter. I truly appreciate it! I'll definitely write to head office, and see where it goes from there. I was thinking of asking the manager responsible for the whole cosmetics department instead of MAC itself as I'd hate to think that they're all like that ( And hopefully they will adress the issue both directly and within the whole group.) If I hear anything worth mentioning I'll update the thread. I've only ever written once to a cooperate office and they promised me something in return and went as far as asking for my home address to send me the gift card but I have yet to even see anything in the mail. Thanks again =)

Can we say rude! why would she even ask if you knew what the were for?? especially since you say she was rude. It bothers me hearing stories this because I hate seeing employeed give bad service as if its ones fault they hate their job-.-

Adahli M.
I would definitely contact the manager personally because through email there's a chance they won't even reply I've heard cases like that.

Lexi C.
That is crazy!! Should've used your phone to show her what you do for Beautylish and how many people you really help, unlike her.
Nov 30, 2014
Sarah A.
That's shitty. I would definitely report that behaviour.
Nov 30, 2014
Alicia C.
That kind of behavior is completely not acceptable for any sort of sales associate to ever display. I agree with other ladies above, I would personally contact the head office and tell them my complaints.

Was this in the Macy's at Dadeland? Because those girls are witches with a capital B. I'd ask for a manager first, and then if you get nowhere with the manager, I'd email corporate.
Nov 30, 2014
Kitty K.
Lol, believe me I really wanted to tell her that I was going to use it to bake a cake just to see how she'd react. I actually had my boyfriend on the phone at the time and he heard the whole thing.
It wasn't the Macys at Dadeland though, I can't stand that Macys altogether! I just avoid it and go to Nordstorm altogether. Even walking through it is a mission. It was the one at International Mall. Which come to think I've had issues with the Bobbi Brown Botique.. kept getting brushed off so the lady can continue gossiping and all I wanted to know was the price.
Nov 30, 2014
Hannah K.
I don't think I've been to the International Mall. Yikes! I'm so sorry to hear that that happened, though. I'd avoid that place...and/or come back later with perfect makeup and then look around for like an hour and then leave without buying anything. But I'm vindictive and I do not deal with people treating me poorly.

Honestly, does anyone else think MAC employees seem to do this a lot? I've seen SO many stories like this in America and Australia.
Nov 30, 2014
Rebecca B.
That's terrible, the only MAC near me is in a Harvey Nichols beauty bazaar, they're lovely and very complimentary, I'd definitely make a complaint, makes me wonder how people like that could even get a job there!

Vanessa M.
Definitely contact the manager. that's beyond appropriate.
