Do brands matter?

I'm new to using makeup and such and I was wondering if the expensive brands really made a difference compared to the brands you can find in a drug store. I'm not really one to spend a lot of money, but if it makes a huge difference I might be willing cx Please help me! thank you in advance c;

Drugstore brands are good too, that's what I use. it just depends on the brand for what products they have that are the best. (ex: wet n wild has good eyeshadow, eyeliner, & lipstick)

I think they do, I used to think it was only the eyeshadows and lipsticks where you could see quality but I just got my first high end mascara as a gift and omg it's such a difference it doesn't look clumpy and it gives a nice finish. But I still won't spend so much on mascara as it dries quickly. Eyeshadows though are really worth investing in! Lipsticks I guess you can find a good primer but they're not as long lasting.

With some objects yes but others not so much. For eyeshadow, eye primer is key then stuff as inexpensive as elf gets compliments on your eyes:) so best way to find out is reviews and testing it out! It's nice to test out cheap stuff because it's not hurting your wallet! Aha but for foundations though I would say the more expensive they do have better quality but not by much! So usually by personal preference aha good luck with finding it out! :)8.

It does.. Well at least to me. But I only but high end brands for eyeshadow, foundation/BB Creams, and brushes, other than that I use everything else from drugstores. I would suggest to start off with drugstore though. So you can experiment and know what goes where, methods to apply products that work for you, and then when you're ready go on to high-end.

It depends. Some hi -end brands is probably in the drug stores for cheaper. Brand just depends. The highest may be the lowest in quality to your face. So it all really depends?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I think it's all about personal preference. For me, I don't like to compromise the quality of my foundation so I always go with high end. Same with mascara. But I can settle for a drugstore lip and an elf eyeshadow. You'll figure out what you prefer to save money on.

Meghan's hit the nail on the head it's all down to personal preference.

Make up's all about experimentation and finding out what works for you. I'm more than happy to splurge on a product that I know I'll get use out of and is of good quality. I do have my limits of course but I do like the occasional high end purchase. My make up's a mix of high end and drug store personally.

As the other ladies have said, it really depends. For instance, the brand Bourjois actually owns Chanel, so their Healthy Mix foundation is a fantastic dupe for the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Everyone has different things they like to invest in - for me, it's eyeshadows and eyeliner. They're the products I use most often and that I know will last me a long time. Some brands do certain products better than others (like I love Rimmel lipsticks, but their eyeshadows suck), and in some cases you will find a drugstore brand does a product better than a high end one, or vice versa. Maybelline has some of the best mascaras I've tried, and I would never dream of paying for a high end one that's only going to dry out in 3 months in anyway.

Don't buy into expensive brands just for the hype and label. Their packaging may be more impressive, but it's the product inside that counts. Don't feel obligated or pressured to buy high end; experiment and find out what you like, ans what you find worth investing in. For starting out, drugstore makeup is perfectly fine. You only have to think about more expensive ones if you have major issues with a certain type of product and you're not satisfied at all with the drugstore products on offer - like not finding any cheap liquid liner that lasts a long time, etc.

The only things I think are not worth going high end for any reason are lipgloss, nail polish, and mascara.

Perhaps some products it does matter, but there are so many dupes... I only use drugstore products and they are great! In fact I've gone in store before and tried high end products and didn't even like it, might just be personal preference

I personally love high end products. But I do have luck with some drugstore stuff here and there. I feel like it's opposite for me though, I'm very picky about what drugstore stuff I buy because once you use it usually you can't return it. With high end you can use half of the bottle and still return it or exchange it. I feel like places that carry high end makeup do more to make sure you're happy with your product. I would rather spend $15 and be satisfied and feel like my money was well spent than spend $5 and feel like I wasted money. There is no "oh well at least it was only $5" with me. It's more like "I just wasted $5 on a piece of crap." I usually feel like I'd rather put the $5 I'd spend on something drugstore towards saving for something higher end. But this is just ME and I think everyone starts with drugstore and I'm no exception to that. We all have to start somewhere. I do find myself super satisfied with pretty much all my high end stuff so it's still worth it for me. There are definitely still good products that are drugstore though. One I love in particular is Nyx. They are great and super affordable. Of course some products will not be good, both high end and drugstore. A bad product is a bad product in my opinion lol. Both high end brands can have them and so can drugstore brands. If you aren't satisfied with a lot of drugstore items or really love a certain product so much that you want to put money into investing in high quality versions of that product then go for it. I am at the point where I don't reallt buy drugstore eyeshadow anymore, I invest in high end palettes and I notice a huge difference so I keep going back. But for things like mascara I mostly use drugstore except if I get a sample of something high end. I very rarely purchase high end mascara actually.

I personally only spend a lot of money on skin products because my skin breaks out easily, and can't tolerate the shitty chemicals in drugstore makeup.
Everything makeup wise that I own is drugstore, apart from my setting spray and foundations (which are mac)
It really just depends on the individual to be honest
