I think the entire look has to come together to support the red lips, whatever that means for you. I second Mandy's vintage feel. I think vintage Hollywood glamour when I wear it! I think it depends on 1. how comfortable you are wearing it in general and 2. the attitude you want to take on--whether that's hyper independent woman, trendsetter, etc. I love red lips on other people, too. I always think--wow that looks nice! ;)

I wear my red lipstick almost everyday. It makes me feel glamourous even with only a white Tshirt and jeans. It's like an accessory. Once you find the right red for you, you will want to wear it all the time

I don't feel comfortable in red lipstick... I can do bright pinks or oranges, but reds are off limits. The only time it looked good on me was when a trained makeup artist did it for me... even then, I still didn't feel comfortable. Big lips don't look good w/ bold reds on me.  =/
