Hello ladies! I need some advice on cleaning my Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Brush...I love using it to apply my liquid foundation. However it gets packed with foundation, since the brush is SO DENSE I find it very hard to clean it throughly!!!

What is the best way (and best brush cleaner) for cleaning very densely packed brushes??? I only have the Sonia Kashuk and ELF brush cleaner and they did work at all. I would really appreciate some advice, thanks =)

I have a really dense brush for foundation as well. I use baby shampoo to clean it every couple weeks or so, and I use a daily brush cleaner spray (Sephora brand) every day...I just spray some on and then wipe it on a clean towel, and that gets most of the makeup off so its not as packed with foundation when I use it again.

Thanks Melanie! I'm just now reading your response (beautylish usually notifies me but didn't this time and I was sad no one responded) But I see you did =) I will try some baby shampoo!

I've found that L'occitane's shower oil worked REALLY well for my really dense Sephora mineral brush. It's this one. It is a bit pricey but there's a small one for $8 too, especially if it's just for brushes, but it smells so good I had to just swim in it LOL.

@Melanie G. - "I use a daily brush cleaner spray (Sephora brand) every day..."

I found that to be a complete waste of money since it's basically just alcohol. You can make your own for far less and get far more product.

Personally I use Mona Lisa's Pink Soap which was previously recommended by another Beautylish member. It's sold at craft stores and art supply stores. That stuff works beautifully. Love it and at under $2 (after coupon) it's really nice.

I took Michelle Phan's advice, using 1 part olive oil and 3 parts Dawn to clean all my brushes. It works really well for my MAC stippling brushes as well as my Sonia Kashuk and Sigmas. Cleans while conditioning. I think it's an artist trick?

Best Wishes,

I use dish soap and it gets it perfectly clean, I only use olive oil and dish soap on my natural haired brushes. You just have to make sure you really rinse the brush because the soap can really stick to the bristles.

I just tried Pink Soap from Michaels yesterday, and it works but for the price...I think I will just stick with my Olive Oil/Dawn combo...
