Hi guys! So... I'm super nosy and I want to know all about what you guys majored in college and what you do now! I'm kind of in a predicament myself because I'm trying to become a graphic design major, but if I don't get in I will most likely become a drawing or painting major. I love both, but I'm not sure what I could pull with this major once I graduate. I'm an english minor as well, so... yeah, just leave comments to whatever! Thanks!

You know, it's kind of sad but a Bachelor's degree just doesn't get you very far anymore. Maybe the economy will have picked up by the time you graduate? I'd start planning for a Masters if I were you!
I'm still working towards my Art History Bachelors and I already know it's not going to get me anywhere.... *le sigh*

yeah, i know im going to grad school, but im just not sure for what! do i continue the art, when i know it wont get me anywhere, or do i go for something else? it just sucks knowing that you're supposed to do what you want, but im just thrown that i may not get anything from it :/ and art history? im taking modern art right now! what are/ were your favorite courses?

Math and economics. I completely agree about grad school. I am graduating in spring when people ask what I want to do I tell them, go to grad school. I still don't know what I want to do with it yet.

I'm a Mass Communications major. But, this is the third time I've switched my major, haha! I used to be a Meteorology major and then I became a Marketing major... so who knows how long Mass Comm will last :)

Wow, I even managed to depress MYself with my post... so here's something a bit more positive lol... You could........
Work for Disney!...or for one of the companies that does the IMAX or other movies, do the illustrations for children's books, design video game graphics, create web page designs... hmm... become a consultant for any of those areas or.... you could just make beautiful art and become rich and famous putting your stuff on display?
If you have drive, talent, and manage to connect yourself in the right arenas the possibilities are really endless... It's just so competitive out there right now, you have to really want it and be the best!

@Jordan: Mass Communications is basically Journalism, Radio, TV, Public Relations, and Advertising. I can pick one (or two) to specialize in. :) I haven't decided yet! Haha.

I'm in college now majoring in Elementary Education. I plan on working at a low-income public school once I graduate! :)

The truth is, I probably won't get to do anything that involves art... But in a world where opportunities were readily available my dream job would be consulting for hotels or business on art and sculpture, helping organize exhibitions, or working in a museum in some capacity- even as a docent or something!
So far my favorite classes have definitely been the historical ones... but I can't say I don't enjoy actually creating art myself. Art in general is just such a difficult major to make work career-wise. My backup plan is owning my own doggie hotel, so at least I can decorate that myself! ; P

@andrea that is so neat! they all sound so cool
@angela a doggie hotel? that's so cute!

I'm working full time right now and I plan on going to school for the spring/summer semester. That gives me a lot of time to save up which is nice. I want to major in Psychology and minor in Music so I can become and music therapist. =] It's not really beauty related but it's my dream!!

I went to school for Marketing and graduated when the unemployment level was at an all time low in 2008. The Marketing Department is typically the first to go when the economy is bad. From then, I have been in and out of online marketing jobs. However, the good thing is online marketing is still blowing up. I agree that a Bachelors doesn't really get you too far and one day, I will get my MBA, just not now.
I honestly think that Graphic Design is a great major. For someone who works in online marketing, we are always looking for good graphic designers. My advice, start building your portfolio before you finish school, the more experience, the better. If you are thinking about an English major, start your own blog and contact your local paper/magazine and see what they are missing in their editorial sections - maybe offer to write them a beauty column or something like that - that is what one of my friends does and she gets paid per article. Just a few thoughts :)

@mindy that is an awesome idea! ill have to look into publications around school and see what i can come up with! one of the things bothering me is not having time for outside work because the work load right now is so heavy, but ill have to figure out something. i need more than 24 hours in a day ahaha

Andrea F.
You're double majoring and have a minor? ^^ How much time did that take you? :)
Sep 17, 2011
Erica H.
@Amalee - I'm taking my first sociology class right now and i absolutely LOVE it! It sucks because now i really wanna minor in sociology, but in my college Elem Education majors are the only ones who cant minor in anything they want :( It has to be like collaborative teaching or language & culture. I'm thinking about double minoring so i can do sociology too if thats possible. Its just so interesting! :) I'm hoping to take Sociology of Education in the spring! Can't wait for that!

I've been in school for EVER - and that's because I keep changing my damned mind. I agree with the user above that stated a Bachelor's doesn't get you far anymore. I know many ppl w/ just an AS degree doing just as well - if not BETTER than my other friends that graduated from a 4 year program.
I finally settled on Interior Design - but it's taking me AGES. Oh well... as long as you have a plan and you continue to remain persistent in persuing your goal, it'll happen! =)

@Andrea, it will be 5.5 years by the time i'm done

@nikki a cake decorator? how cool! do you have to know how to bake and stuff? are you your own cake boss? that's so interesting!
@soma interior design seems so interesting, but i heard it's a lot of technical work and drafting. i can barely read a ruler :P

I am working on my Bachelors right now, 2 years left I doplan on getting my Masters as well.
I've read the comments about finding jobs after graduation, one thing I have been researching is job markets by state and city. I know when I graduate I will most likely have to look outside the area I am in for a good job.
