MAC. Are you over it?

I've been obsessed w/ MAC since 1996 but I find the older I get the more stuff I discover that are actually better than MAC. Don't get me wrong I still "like" MAC but I'm not obsessed. They have an amazing array of color choices when it comes to eyeshadow but the quality lately - eeehhh has been lacking.

Are you still MAC obsessed or are you discovering and loving other products?

I still go to mac because it is relatively inexpensive (especially with a pro discount) I am an avid buyer of their lipsticks, however everything else I can live without. I have found better quality eye products from Wet n Wild, Inglot, and Sugarpill, Urban Decay and small indie brands online that offer far more unique products and at a lower price. It is apparent that the products MAC has released has definitely been lacking. They end up releasing one or 2 good products add some special packaging make it limited edition and hype it up and they still end up selling out since people fall for it. I am guilty of this ahem..Venomous Villains, but now that I have a larger collection I am more selective about purchasing things, since I find it is easy to find dupes in my collection.
So yes I am over it in the sense that (oh my god MAC MAC MAC!!! I must buy it all! Or I wish I could buy it all! but I still on occasion will purchase from them, but it's not as exciting as it used to be.

I think that myself and the majority of the people that I know that are into makeup it is like a phase. I really liked MAC eyeshadows but like you said lately the quality is just not there. As I got more into makeup and discovering more products that are better than MAC I just look forward to the products that I know I love from them that I do not like from other brands. The paint pots are my favorite product from MAC. Eyeshadows I no longer buy from them cause my new obsession brand for eyeshadows is Inglot. They are better than MAC, cheaper than MAC, great pigmentation and more product.

i'm over mac. there's a few things i'll probably always buy there (while i look for a dupe, anyways) but i don't see myself branching out to pick up more product i've never tried before. i've been pretty disappointed in collections lately, too. i've found so many other brands that make better make up and deserve more hype.

i hate how they keep releasing collections every other day! i would rather have a collection once in awhile with amazing quality and not repromoted products.

I don't think I'll ever be over them, but I've definitely broadened my makeup horizons since I started out. No one company is the be all to end all, each have their strengths & weaknesses.

I still love their lipsticks (mattene <3), but I don't invest the energy into following each and every collection anymore.. just because they're constantly pushing new. I'm all for innovation, but I feel like all the collections take away from the permanent line which is actually quite strong (in my opinion).

Back in '06-07 I was heavily into MAC and I think it's because it was all I knew at the time. When someone talks about makeup, MAC is like the "foundation[[as in structure]]" brand! Now that I'm discovering more brands, I find myself not wanting to spend $8+[or however much they cost]] for a single eyeshadow. I do love their powder foundation and their multitude of colors with those though. All in all, I'm over it!

i actually had the opposite experience as many of you. The brand that really pushed me into makeup (and my interest/obcession with it) was Too Faced! After loving Too Faced, I branched out to brands like Urban Decay, Philosophy, and Bare minerals. All those brands are fab, but I had never been to a MAC counter simply because I felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of bright colors they sold.

Well, fast forward to now when just about all I wear is bright color, I went for a visit earlier this year and love it. So, I do love MAC but I know that there is love to share with other brands. meaning, i bought the tarte for true blood palette but also bought the new gel liners with MAC me over. I pick and choose what I want from MAC based on if it's unique to my collection or something I just love. I do think MAC is extremely high quality and the customer service at my counter is amazing. I don't think I'll ever stop shopping there but chances are, I won't stop going to Sephora either. :-)

It depends, I love makeup so it comes and goes. MAC releases too many collections an some of the best products are LE .

I have never purchaced anything from them. I do own one product from them however, a paint pot. Im not overly impressed with it. The only thing I would ever buy from them is a lipstick. So I guess I was over them before I started, haha.

I don't own much MAC. But the products I do own, I like quite a bit. I've only ever purchased items from their permanent line (except for the Lady GaGa lipglass I own). The only collections they've released that I've ever really wanted was the Alexander McQueen collection, Fafi, Heatherette, and the Hello Kitty collection. That was when I was first really getting into make up, but even then I never purchased an item until 08 or 09. But, from watching videos and reading review, I agree that MAC's quality (and originality, for that matter) has gone downhill quite a bit. However, I will always buy Satin Taupe eye shadow from them, and I would love to try out more of their lip products.

I love MAC and I will continue to buy from them whether that's from the permanent or limited edition collections. I will always use other brands too though.

I just got into MAC this year. They definitely have makeup staples that I will repurchase again, MSF Natural, paintpots! and I really like the Pro Longwear and Select Moisturecover concealer. I will say I've been a little MAC obsessed, but I do check out other brands as well. But MAC is pretty much middle of the road as far as prices go. Many of their products are less expensive to comparable products at Sephora but definitely not drugstore price. Ex. Paintpoints vs Benefit Creaseless cream shadow...Fluidline vs. Bobbi Brown gel liner vs Stila smudge pot etc...And I live near 2 CCO's sooo yeah discounted MAC is always nice :)

I wouldn't say I'm over MAC because there are a LOT of products that I haven't tried from them but I'm definitely not obsessed.

I am not yet over MAC, but I can tell that a lot of beauty lovers are. Did anybody see Tiffany D's video about the MAC Me Over Collection? She certainly seemed over MAC to me. Just an example.

I live far away from any MAC stores, so it's a treat when I get to go. I guess the shelf life will be longer for me because of this. I like a lot of other brands, too, so I was only ever obsessed with MAC brushes. For shadows, Inglot had me obsessed! Someday I will go to an Inglot store.

I want Sugarpill. I want Ben Nye. But I also love that I can to the CCO and get MAC....so I dunno.

What a great topic! I love seeing these responses!

@Stephanie: I've seen it, and yeah, I think she is.

Personally, I like MAC, I will still purchase their products, but there are plenty of other brands I like, too.

Shelly,

Haha I was afraid she was gonna fall asleep during it.

I am glad they re-released the 226 brush with that collection, though! I love it! But, in that case I still think I like my E45 from Sigma better...I think it's supposed to be the same brush, weird.

But that's one thing about MAC I have noticed. The brushes are different even between the same numbers. Strange, but I guess because they are individually cut? I got my 226 online so I wonder if there are more pointed ones? Hmmm...

I find their products are really good quality, but they always end up breaking me out and they make my skin itchy. I still own a Mineralized Skin Finish from them and a their moisture cover concealer and never use them. MAC has just become to mainstream for me, and they come out with way to many LE collections which sucks because if you really like something you have to purchase a bunch of them at once.

I really like MAC products, especially their lipsticks. But I do like other brands. I think everyone should try different brands and not stick to one :)

I don't think I will never actually be over MAC, there is a lot of things from them that I love. I wish their shadows were more pigmented but I just love how many colours there are. I also adore their foundations, concealers and lipsticks. I do buy a lot more NARS and MUFE than anything else now, but when I'm in the neighborhood for nice neutral brown eyeshadows I always go back to MAC.

I still really love MAC, although I do think some of their products and collections aren't as good as they used to be. There are certain products I absolutely adore (their eyeshadows, fix +, msf natural, prolong wear concealer), I feel like a lot of their newer products and collections aren't well thought out or very creative.

I guess I was over MAC before I started too. Ever since I started doing makeup artistry they were ALWAYS the brand everyone was obsessed about, I always preferred other brands (i.e. UD, Smashbox etc). I remember the first product of theirs I bought; it was a single eyeshadow in "Carbon" and to be honest I really wasn't blown away. Yes, they are a good brand but there are better. I do keep going back to buy a few products from them, but only if it's a lipstick or eyeshadow colour that I can't find a substitute by another brand.

I was never obsessed, so I don't have a reason to get burnt out on their products. I guess that's a good thing though since I really don't mind MAC.
Idk, I'm really excited to try out their Pro Longwear foundation once my HG foundation runs out (sigh) since it's been discontinued.

I think a majority of the people that say they're "over" MAC or any brand are the types of people that own a vast majority of their product. You can't really be "over" something you haven't had everything of... but that's just my opinion. [Tiffany D. practically owns most of that stuff anyways...]

Of course, that is not a bad thing at all. Conquering an entire collection of items definitely enables one to go off and try new things, but you don't need to wait until you've owned everything to be bored of it already. I like MAC, but I enjoy their eyeshadows mostly... I am sick of their LE collections and the "hype" but I'm not going to hate on their ingenious marketing tactics to get their brand selling like hotcakes.

Stephanie F. - yeah, the 226's are individually hand-cut. I own three of them, and I have two that are tapered, and one that is really fluffy... like a smaller/denser version of the 224. You pretty much get that variance with many hand cut brushes though. MAC just doesn't have the greatest quality control when it comes to that. Doesn't bother me too much though - I love both the tapered and fluffy variations of the 226.

Although I love how standardized MAC's permanent collection is, I've found myself very much in love with MUFE, Tarte and Physician's Formula as of late. =)

As for MAC's Carbon that so many people love, I agree it isn't the best black. I'd like everyone to try Sugarpill's black in "Bulletproof" when they get the chance. That stuff is POTENT black!

By the way, I'll probably never hate MAC, since it was my gateway drug into this beauty world... and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Ah... the memories...

Soma, I wish I had been able to get to a counter/store to get a look at them. I ordered mine online since I live so far from a city. Also, I want Sugarpill soooo bad! That and Ben Nye have to be my next purchases...

I always love seeing what you have to say.
