I rocked leggings with whatever I wore lol. People shouldn't put restrictions on fashion, that's just wrong! :P

Leggings are not pants, leggings are closer to tights than to pants since the material is more like tights than pants. That's why leggings are not pants.

I don't care what they're categorized as, I love tights/leggings/whatever :)

Just because ads are advertising leggings as pants doesn't make the leggings pants. It's just another way to market stuff so it sells. ;)

I love leggings but I must say if your going to wear leggings as "pants" wear a sweater or a shirt that is long enough to cover your butt and the front area lol. Enough said! I always tell my friends to wear a long shirt and they never listen and then they complain about having a camel toe for the world to see haha.

Totally agree on the camel toe! That's why leggings aren't pants and you should always wear a top that covers your butt and crotch. No one needs to see the leggings grip every fold and curve. Eeesh!

i freakin love leggings. I wear them with everything still. They havent gone out in toronto yet! everyone where's them. leggings aren't pants...they are leggings, where them proud, they make ur legs and butt look awesome. the only think is i would tend to where them with a shirt that covered my but and "area" so it wouldn't be to much information. :)

I wear leggings 'as pants' all the time. Woot!

I think leggings are like shorts, where they're a separate bottom category. Like how you would wear shorts under a skirt in elementary school so it would be okay if your skirt flipped up?

Leggings are fine "as pants" as long as the shirt is long enough. The models in the photos above all seem to be wearing long enough shirts to pull off the look. That's not to say I would do it--last summer, I practically lived in leggings, but I also wore a lot of mini-dresses and tunic-style shirts.
I think it comes down to the age-old "to each his(or her) own"...

i love leggings. But lets be real here. Leggings =/= Pants.

I don't care if leggings are considered pants or not pants, IN style or NOT IN style, I will continue to wear them because they're super comfy and tuck into my boots easily :)
I NEVER wear them without a long top or dress over it though, that's something I think EVERYONE can agree on.

A lot of the photos shown are actually more of jeggings or peggings aka jeans/pants leggings.
And excuse me for being so blunt but I don't understand why people who are grossly overweight wear leggings without a long top and think they look decent *shudders*

NO NO NO

MEN IN LEGGINGS JUST NO.

I got a few pairs of leggings when they first came out and they where literally footless opaque tights!

In reply to Louise-Lesley J---
People who are "grossly" overweight as you so articulately put it, have a right to wear any clothing that they personally see fit to wear. Be it jeggings, leggings, two piece bathing suits, etc.
Its no different than a slender person choosing to wear those same articles of clothing. if you're offended by the sight of adipose, than perhaps thats an internal issue, and not one you have a right to visit on someone else, despite wether or not you approve of their wardrobe choices.
The fact of the matter remains, that body policing of ANY kind is wrong, and if "grossly" overweight people happen to "gross" you out in leggings, I'd think it's safe to safe that you have an issue with fat people in general...not fat people in leggings specifically.
And as a self-identifying fat bitch ;), I LOVE wearing leggings and tight fitting clothes, because I happen to love being fat AND fashionable. The beauty of it is that YOU dont get to decide what does and does not look decent on MY body. Or anyone else's for that matter.
If you don't like the sight of fat people, then don't look at them. <3 <3 <3

Woah - okay calm down girl. did you even understand my comment?
Grossly by definition is excessively fat or immediately obvious. It's an actual word. I'm not using slang.
Those pictures of people you have posted are not fat.
I am talking about excessively (using a different term this time for ya.) fat. As in obese. As in so large that when they wear leggings without a long top (did you read that bit when i said without a long top or did you ignore it completely?) that it is completely unflattering and looks horrible.
Feb 17, 2011
Louise-Lesley J.
Although I don't think she's fat either.
Feb 17, 2011
Erin Z.
I read your comment, completely and thoroughly. And my point still stands. If you want to switch gears a use medical terminology like "obese" than I think it's pretty important to understand who those words refer to. The image I posted for example, is of me. You said I'm not "fat" but by using the medical terminology of obese, you obviously don't realize that it does in fact reference me. I have a BMI of 35. I'm classified as "moderately obese" by those medical standards.
And moderately obese is just a few small steps under "grossly" and/or "morbidly" obese. My point to which you took offense, was that regardless of how you phrased, or what right you felt you could justify in doing so, you meant those words in a negative connotation in regards to someone else's body, based soley on their size. I apologize that my pointing this out offended you...but hey, don't dish what you can't take.
Why would the picture above be horrible if her top was short? Please elaborate. Because you'd have to see her belly, or her thighs rubbing together? How would that be any more or less telling about her form beneath her clothes than say, a tight pair of jeans with a shirt tucked in?
Your trying to make a point that fat women in leggings with a short top is more visually unappealing than a skinny woman with leggings and a short top. And *I* am making mention that the only difference in those two situations is fatness. So that stands to reason your issue is with fatness, not leggings and a short top. That's all I'm saying, nothing to get defense over, just trying to share a completely different perspective.
By saying a fat woman shouldn't wear revealing clothes because she's fat and hence, it would look awful on her...is to perpetuate the idea that fat = ugly and skinny = beautiful. I completely disagree. Fat and beauty are not mutually exclusive. Neither is fat and fashion. So I stand by my point that your above statement is disrespectful and offensive, not just to fat women, but really to all women who fall outside of what hegemonic society would have us believe is an acceptable "body" type. Just sayin'.

You have already judged me so I see absolutely no point in discussing this with you. I have no time for wastful negative energy.
Short top + leggings = horrible.
Feb 17, 2011
Erin Z.
Judge you? I did no such thing. I simply (and very politely) offered a different point of view. Sorry you find it so infuriating you wish not to discuss it. But, no bad blood here doll.
No energy is negative unless you make it that way hun. :)

Great topic on leggings as pants (I must admit, I'm still a huge fan of leggings with boots + long shirts). Let's all just remember why this topic was started. Everyone has their own opinions and voices but let's continue to be respectful toward one another. Thanks Beauties!

LMAO!
Ok well i personally wont wear leggings i like my jeans, my yoga pants & my tights but leggings eh.. ive never gotten into them and after seeing many woman (including friends) bend over and seeing everything i simply just skip over them because that just me! i see many woman regardless of size look amazing in them.
I have a grandmother who wears them and she is a size 22 and never looked better at her age and looks stylish but shes been wearing them since the 1970's.
