Leggings are my easy go-to staple. I'm in college. I'm always late to class. Pointe finale!

I think it works IF the shirt is long enough. I see a lot of girls wearing leggings with a tight, short t-shit and it doesn't look good. If you're wearing a loose/long top it's acceptable. Too much skin-tightness makes you look like you're wearing a unitard and that isn't so hot... unless you're a dancer.

I had to LoL at myself. Today was the first time I saw someone wear leggings has pants with a waist length top and I don't think I like seeing her camel toe or her panties. Her leggings were opaque but not thick so you can see through them so they looked like thick pantyhose/tights. But hey, she didn't care that her girly parts were somewhat visible and no one died so all I can say is: I would wear leggings as pants, if and only if, they are textured and very very thick.

I love leggings! & I don't mind people wearing them instead of trousers but you've gotta wear a top that covers your bum! I hate being able to see peoples underwear through their leggings because theres clearly a skirt missing from their outfit :P

Im with the long shirt crowd when it comes to leggings. Especially since they tend to accentuate certain areas lol My butt is big enough it doesn't need any help getting more attention lol

I deteste when people wear leggings with short tops, urgh. I dont wanna see your camel toe thanks. They dont even wear appropriate underwear! Hello knicker lines. Worst thing ever walking behind a girl with her bum bum defined, i cant help but giggle and be abit grossed out.
With a long top or dress though, go for it!

I love leggings BUT, there should be a weight restriction on them. Seriously I see these huge 300+lb women in them with there tummy meat just hanging over the leggings and a shirt that barely covers it up, it looks disgusting

I absolutely LOVE leggings/jeggings or whatever the new word to coin them will be next, ha! :)
I am a dress lover. I usually would rather throw on a cute dress and make it casual with a jacket and statement shoes than throw on jeans and a top.
Jeggings/Leggings have added so many more style options for my "dressier" style and I adore them!
I am with the peanut gallery census that there IS a top length requirement for leggings to be pulled off appropriately. (I.E. no camel toe, butt glimpses, etc) lol.
My first pair of jeggings were these $80 pleather leggings from Bebe (beats head in frustration). I am SOO mad I paid that much for them but at the time the pleather leggings were new to the scene and harder to find.
But anyhow, I digress. Now that I have become smarter on how much to spend on leggings, I must say that the "leather" style leggings are my ultimate FAV...especially with killer statement shoes!
Loving this convo ladies...

I think the biggest thing about leggings as pants is the fact that a LOT of people wear them with shorter shirts. I see it all the time where I live... Mainly leggings, North Face fleeces [which really aren't THAT long], and Uggs... It's like a uniform...

THE RULE!!! *no leggings with short shirts ,THE EXCEPTION!!!* unless working out

but at the same time, people wear them with leggings... which are not so warm... and their fleeces... I was talking more about the fact that I pass, sometimes groups of people, wearing THE EXACT SAME THING.

IMO, if leggings can be pants or not depends on how thick and supportive the leggings are. I have two pairs of thick leggings which are pretty supportive (one is made of yoga pant material and the other is like stretchy faux leather) and I wear them both as pants. I do have other leggings which are much thinner and I ALWAYS wear a top long enough to cover my derrière.
It's about what I'm comfortable wearing and what I think I look great in, not about what everyone else thinks I should be wearing.

I totally agree on the opacity and the support of the leggings depends on if you can wear them on their own. I love how Erin is wearing them in her picture and that's definitely something I'd do. But when leggings are the super thin spandex-y sorta stuff and a regular t-shirt, I can't help but feel like someone ran off with their skirt or something.

The rule for me is leggings are ok as pants as long as they are completely opaque! cant tell you how many times I have seen a girl walking down the street with sheer almost stocking like leggings as pants. And yes opaque leggings are out there they just cost a little more$$$. before i buy legging i always do a bend over test in the mirror..if i can see my undies its a no go!

I asked a few of my guy friends (keep in mind these are emo guys who wear girl skinny jeans) and my bf (defiantly not an emo guy but wear baggy jeans) every single one of them said that they hate seeing girls wearing leggings as pants, they can see more then they want to, there's the camel toe issue, and its defiantly sexier to leave something to imagination.

Here in NYC you find people that wear leggings/tights that are sheer and you see everything! They are a bunch of leggings that the material is thicker or equal to a pant material. And there are the ones that are sheer that are meant to be worn under a skirt or something else.

Here's the thing... I love leggings! But if your top is not long enough... don't you even dare wear leggings as pants. If your top doesn't cover your rear or your front, like Theresa and Cassidy mentions, you can see everything (the color of underwear you have... your camel toe)... especially if it's a sheer material. AND as a reminder, if you wear leggings a lot, that once thick legging will turn sheer especially if you wear it a lot (like I do).
With Jeggings, which are jeans + leggings, you might be able to get away with wearing it with a crop top or so... and it's the same with leather leggings.

Totally just got some legit looking jeggings. They have real back pockets & everything. LOVE THEM!

I still wear leggings but I make sure my top is long enough to cover my front and back. Other then that, I don't care whether or not other people think leggings are not pants. I wear whatever I feel comfortable in regardless what it is. You do have to care how you look in it though, cover your camel toe! I definitely think it is nasty and inappropriate to wear a short top with leggings that show the shape of your you know what. Use common sense. If your going to wear something, make sure its decent.

I am for leggings through and through so long as they cover the front and back door.
But let's face it. They're not pants. Unless they come with a zipper and/or button, and could be held up with a belt, they aren't pants.
They're tight sweatpants - wear 'em to the gym or on a lazy outfit day. You should not lead with leggings as your favourite outfit.

My closest friends are all guys, and they all love leggings. They do, however, absolutely take the piss out of girls when the fabric is sheer enough to see underwear through it. (I know it's mean, but can you really blame them?)
The trick is to wear a long enough top and stop wearing them if you get the dreaded camel-toe. Nothing is worth the camel-toe.
What I don't think people understand is that there's a difference between "leggings" and "footless tights".
