What do you guys think of- free makeup?

How do you guys feel about makeup artists receiving free makeup from big companies? It's kind of annoying to me. Especially when a lot of big makeup artists can afford it! I'm mostly annoyed because I saw a girl today receive the lime crime Venus palette and all of their lipsticks (cashmere included) that are out of stock and have been out of stock to the public for the longest time. I just don't think that's fair but that's just me! How do you ladies feel about it?

It's alllllll business. Not really frustrating to me. Makeup artists need the products as their job is based around it, and the companies need the advertising.

I guess I meant more youtubers And beauty bloggers! the one I'm specifically referring to in this post has about 70K Instagram followers. I wouldn't consider her a makeup artist because she only does it on herself. It's just kind of frustrating and a lot of people who commented on the post are a little annoyed too.

I agree with Alexis. Yes, MUA need the products, but if that's the case, give free products to the ones who can't afford it.

Companies send their products to YouTubers and bloggers for reviewing purposes. It doesn't really annoy me since they're getting sent the products to be reviewed, they're not just receiving products for the fun of it. Plus seeing reviews on the products from people whose opinion I trust really helps to keep me from spending money on products that I might not even like.

If you read the actual post I'm not annoyed that they're receiving free products. I'm annoyed because they're getting products that have been supposedly sold out for months that nobody else can get. I don't think that's fair to advertise something as "sold out" when there's enough to hand out to people.

Idk like I said it's all business. It's all meant for advertising. They say stuff is sold out because it's a product that is in high demand, they sell copious amounts of that specific product, then hold back sales for a bit, then restock when there's enough to make a decent sell out again. It's business. It's to keep you waiting, and wanting. Lol.

I personally won't order from lime crime since I've heard a lot of awful things about the owner/ company (repackaging other companies makeup and claiming it as their own) so them doing it really doesn't bother me as much but I do see why people are frustrated. But I also see where you ladies are coming from.

I agree with renay,itd all amout advertidong even sold out products, I don't remember if it was alma or jackie or even both, that this is one of tbe strategies mac does it makes a hype they "sell out" but then they have those sold out products on clearence, I think they just try to make a a riot yo ensure things do get sold out cuz once they put it on for sale again everyone will pounce and hop on it, its like a good sale, some lafies are willing to punch everyone in sight and stomp on them for the good deal lol.

Speaking from experience, companies have a certain number of products that they set aside to send to MUA and bloggers. Even if the product is sold out, they might still have a small number previously set aside for sending out.

Keep in mind too that a lot of youtubers with beauty based channels make that their living & dedicate themselves to it. It's not like they just like to do makeup it's their actual job & get paid for it. Being sponsored by companies shouldn't be a big deal if they worked for their "followers" & proved that they're good at what they do. What someone receives from a company shouldn't bother you in my opinion.

I ordered something from limecrime and it actually arrived and wasn't sold out. Pretty much contrary to everything I expected. It's a bummer that their most popular products have sold out. They are amazingly saavy marketers and I suspect that lilli is right and some of the so-called shortages are staged to build hype for their products. The whole thing is fake as can be, but they still have managed to convince people they are just this indie company and the brain child of some blogger/model makeup enthusiast. I don't buy it, but I LOVE the product I bought (the waterproof shadow helper) which I got on recommendation of Jacquelyn, whose opinion to me means a billion times more than any youtubers.

It's all about marketing. It's more beneficial for them to give one lippie to someone who will get 70k more people to buy them when they're back in stock, than allowing 5 more people to buy them. $70,000 > $5.
