My *almoost* 6 year old daughter wants her hair cut. It's just about to her butt and it's thin and it's a fight to brush it. She wants a short textured bob like her little sister. Who used to have longish hair too till they decided to play hair dresser. Anyway so in torn should I cut should I keep it long... Suggestions? Here's my daughters hair. I'd cut at the pony she wants it's shorter. I'll try and find a photo of my youngest hair as well

Honesty, when I was 6 my grandfather took me for my first real haircut so to speak and I also got a bob and I've regretted it since I've gotten older, I wish I'd kept it longer. I think getting a smaller amount cut off first would be what I would do but if you don't mind cutting it into a bob then go for what you feel is right :)

Haha but I don't want to cut it at all (minus the ends every 6 weeks lol) I had crazy long hair when I was her age, so to me she needs long hair. But she's been wanting it cut for a month now, and it gets soo tangly because it's soo fine and we fight everytime we brush her hair. It wouldn't be soo bad if she's let me French braid it but she won't. So sometimes (I'm soo bad!😳) I'll just not brush her hair making it soo much worse the next time we go to brush it. So I don't know. I'm in the fence about cutting it, she wants it, my husband doesn't. But the decision is all mine since I'm the one who cares for their hair.,, ugh what to do?

I would cut it maybe 4
Inches and see how she likes it and if it's easier to work with and if not, cut it more. Do it in increments to see how you both feel about it.

I have girls that didn't want their hair cut but I decided to because she had got lice 2x from school it is to their shoulders and now they love it they say it's so much easier to shampoo and comb and my 6 yo does her own hair for school everyday her hair is also straight but very thick... but if she really wants it cut she might try herself one day I work in a salon and have seen it happen plenty of times either way kids are always cute :-)

I would say if she wants it then do it, my parents always let me pick my hair cuts and I loved it. Most of the time I picked short hair and I don't regret it at all

Plus it's fun when she gets to pick her own hair cut I loved doing that when I was younger and it's just hair it will grow back

My niece is about the same age and had about the same length and hers was a pain to brush. This summer she convinced her mom to let her cut it, a textured Bob too, and it turned out great! It was so easy to manage and style, most of all she loved it! She was so happy she had a style she wanted. She began styling it herself, so her mom didn't have to worry about it as much. Long story short I say go for it :) I think it would look adorable. It will always grow back if she ends up not liking it :)

My niece also cut her hair much shorter, like your youngest girl, and looks so cute!! and much easier to comb :)

Thanks girls for all your input, me and my husband talked to her and we agreed to wait until spring and if she still really wants it cut we will cut it for her. I personally think she wants it cut because everyone in her class has short hair except one other girl. But I really appreciate all your input, it helped put my mind at ease if we do happen to cut it.

I'd let her get it cut. I know it's hard, but maybe you can find a happy medium.

Thanks Rozberry. I know it's her hair not mine lol, but everyone loves her hair and I just want to make sure she wants it cut because she wants it not because everyone else has short hair. I've always regretted every hair cut I've gotten so I just don't want her to be like oh my hair is gone and get all upset. So we agreed when the snow is all gone we will cut her hair if she still wants it. 😢 lol.

Nice compromise. I'd also only let her cut it shorter in two or three increments. Children, as you know, often ask for much more than they are prepared for. We don't want either of you in tears. *hug* Great job, Mom! :)

Yes ma'am I think I'd do my first cut to just below her shoulder that way we could still do piggies and ponys. However that would still be long enough to turn into a tangly mess haha.
