Is threading eyebrows bad?? Do you know the harms of it??

I do it every week, no harm but quite painful, you'll get used to it, I did. If threading is harmful, so is waxing.. Think about it. 😏

Agree with the girls. I didn't think it hurt too bad, though. there were only random moments that it would hurt.

Reusing the thread on multiple clients, poor santation on the end of the threader (not washing their hands after every client which exposes you to staph infection). Where I went and had my first and last threading on my brows the woman wore gloves and on her countertop she had her tools (brow brushes and scissors in a liquid sanatizer and she used fresh thread with every client. This is being regulated in many states as far as I know by state cosmotology boards so its best to find out what their procedures are before allowing them to get anywhere near your skin.

Threading grosses me out, mostly because they stick the thread in their mouths...then use it on your eyes. Ick.

Wait..what?!! They put the thread in their mouths??!! 😫😷😵

Yes, some places stick the thread in their mouths. The place I went to they didn't...used their hands. If they did use their mouth I wouldn't do it. Too risky in my opinion.

The thread that they put into their mouth never touches your skin. It's just how they keep it taut

Yeah, I don't think the part they thread with is actually being used on the skin.

It doesn't matter if it isn't the same part, thread is fibrous and bacteria and viruses can travel along the fiber. It isn't a sanitary practice.
Other than violations of sanitation that can introduce infections, the only risks are similar to waxing: bruised skin, pimples, ingrown hairs.
Follow Shelley's advice and make sure anybody you see (for any cosmetic service, not just threading) is licensed and practices proper sanitation.

I agree with Shelley and Emily there is a way of threading where they just use the two threads in there hands and not there mouth, and it really isn't sanitary or using standard precautions which anyone who has a licence for esthetics or cosmology is required to follow

Sandy...I don't any generalizing is apparent in this thread at all. What is done in India is in India...and threading is an unregulated industry here in the US so to see anyone place anything in their mouth (regardless of it being a traditional method in another country) people are going to have problems with that as we were taught differently about what is appropriate (mouths are germ centers). So please don't it personal that some of us find issue with the method.

Oh, no all places do that...the place I went to didn't but there are some that do. There was an article in a dermatology journal where researchers had witnessed threaders reusing thread on clients in one major city. The salon I went to they didnt do that. So no generalizing from me...just wanted to share valuable information to make beauties aware so they aren't risking their health.
No more threading for me Sandy...it was terribly painful.lol xxx ;)

Yeah, don't go to mouth threaders...
Threading is great, if done in sanitary way. Much more control... more painful though. Better for small, taught areas

There's no harm if the threader know what they're doinf.

Eyebrow threading: a popular hair-removal procedure and its seldom-discussed complications (Verma, 2009, DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2230.2008.02920.x)
Eyebrow epilation by threading: an increasingly popular procedure with some less-popular outcomes--a comprehensive review (Litak et al., 2011, DOI: 10.1111/j.1524-4725.2011.02016.x)
Those are just two of many peer-reviewed articles in academic journals regarding potential ill-effects of eyebrow threading. I cannot link directly to them because I get access via my university (it costs money to view them otherwise). If you are enrolled in a university or a school with a journal database, you can search via DOI and locate them. Alternatively, I can upload the full articles as PDF files and share them, if requested.

Sandy, I just remember a while back I wanted to learn how to thread and so I asked the lady who does my brows about it and she said if you mess up you could pull something like skin, a nerve in the area. Which is why as long as a person is careful and sure of what they're doing there isn't any other harms I know of.
