Beautylish becoming trigger site.

Moderators please comment. Lately I've seen quite a few fitness, exercise and weightloss threads being created. I'm not 100% sure if they could be considered beauty related because the fitnesd tab was removed. The reason I'm bringing this up is because I, like many people that visit this community, am a recovering anorexic. These sorts of topics are triggering and make for a mine field when visiting. I've tried overlooking, but I come to beautylish to think purely about hair, makeup, nails, skin, etc. Please let me know if anything can be done or if maybe the tab can be recreated so it can be avoided. I hope that I speak for more people than just myself in a helping manner.

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I also used to suffer from an ED, but I think maybe this isnt the best site for you to be looking at if you feel it is triggering in any way. I feel like just makeup and fashion could be triggers because they all have to do with looks and in my experience, thats the reason my ED started in the first place.. Because I wasnt happy with my looks. I just don't think we should take away from other people who want to get fit and healthy.

Agree with Brandy. I use to starve myself and got to a really unhealthy weight, so now I have to avoid sites like Tumblr. I've never had a problem with beautylish really. But if it is making you think unhealthy thoughts and practice unhealthy habits, maybe you should avoid it for a while.

Or ignore the fitness posts if possible, because it wouldn't be fair for you to miss out on it

Aw Jennifer I know it sucks!
I usually report them ( if I post something not beauty related, mine gets deleted in 2 seconds, why are people getting treated so special lately?! ) and I think it's ridiculous that some are there for DAYS before something is done. It's against the rules and IDK why people insist on it. I think the best thing to do is just to skip it entirely, but lots of girls don't even post a title on what the topic is about so it is kind of a tricker situation.
I don't think it's fair you have to avoid using BL just cause some girls don't want to follow the rules :(
Maybe you can send them an e-mail as well, a lot of them stick around because there's only so little moderators and so many members - they really need to bring moderators who are around more often!

I agree with you Jennifer. Fitness and exercise threads shouldn't be in a beauty tab they should be a fitness tab. If you want to look at nails you aren't going to go to a hair tab. And if you are looking for exercises or whatever you aren't going to go to a Beauty tab.

I agree 100%. I see a lot of threads daily that are not beauty related. I wish people would respect that this is a community dedicated to beauty as set out in the guidelines.

I understand that there could be some "non-beauty related" post on here. But beauty is not only about makeup but being healthy as well and exercise is a great part of that. I do agree they should probably make a fitness tab because many people seem to be interested in this topic. But I am sorry you feel that way Jennifer. Do what's best for you :)

Thank you guys, I enjoy this site so I don't want to avoid it altogether and usually the posts have a hinting title bit some don't. I realized I could email beautylish after I made this thread.

I agree completely , I understand some people think of health and all that as beauty but they have to take into consideration about people like you. And I wouldn't recommend being off this app because this is probably one of the best apps for makeup out there. Hope they make a fitness tab after hearing from you ❤️ Be strong!

Fitness and exercise is beauty related because it has to do with body image =beauty...soo what's the big deal? if it bothers you that much ..maybe you should avoid it or how about skipping over that post.

I was glad when they did away with the Health, Fitness, and Off-Topic sections. I agree that this is a beauty website, not an all-purpose free-for-all. I report topics that don't belong when I can. If someone wants to discuss workouts, diets, and other fitness ephemera, they can do it all on a site dedicated to fitness. Not everyone feels the need to lose weight or change their body to be beautiful; those topics don't belong on Beautylish.

I'm sorry you are feeling how you are, and you shouldn't have to deal with that anxiety. The site staff/moderators need to catch up with enforcing the rules and removing threads. If that means bringing in more mods to deal with the problem, then get on it! This site has had bumps and hurtles, time to bring in more hands to keep it going in the right direction.

Jennifer I'm soo sorry this site/app is a trigger for you!! I personally haven't had an eating disorder (I'm actually struggling to gain weight :( ) but I've had my own problems and have had to avoid social media all together. And it sucks when you have to add one more account to delete because of it.

And I agree with you kitty about some people posting non-beauty related posts and they stay up but I've posted a few threads about (what I feel is beauty related *teeth*) and they get deleted within 15 minutes. It's not fair really, but I guess since when is life fair?? Haha

I hope this passes soon for you Jennifer, it's a daily struggle and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. Best wishes 😚

I agree with everything Emily said. This site is for beauty and makeup, and I think fitness/weight loss can be considered part of that but it's still pretty vague and really is a whole different issue that I feel should be dealt with on a site dedicated to it and it only.

And I'm not trying to be mean but some of the information I see around here just regarding makeup and some "home remedies" is a little scary at times with how inaccurate it is. I would hate to see someone take bad advice about something so serious as exercise and weight loss that could seriously injure them or negatively affect their health. Not to say you can't seriously injure yourself from using certain things involving makeup but the risks are a little smaller there. I don't think this is the place for it and it needs to be dealt with promptly because it's against the terms of service. It also kind of peeves me off that I'll post something about beauty/makeup and am within the terms of service and I get ZERO responses, yet all kinds of stuff that is blatantly against it gets all the answers. And I don't want to post it 6 times so it just goes unanswered. This site has come a long way but I think it still has a long way to go. That's also not to say the Alma and Jacqueline aren't good mods because I know they work their butts off on here. But I don't think it could hurt to take on a couple more people to help delete things that don't belong.

Kitty K.

They definitely do need more moderators - I have no idea how they pick out moderators but think about how BIG this site truly is and how many topics are posted a day.
Jacqueline and Alma are only TWO people. That's like having only two police officers work for one entire area. ( And since I've been put on that situation before, let me just say 25 911/non-emergency calls holding is NOT cute. Now I'm not saying they need a whole squad of 10 more moderators , but 2-3 more wouldn't hurt them )

They have staff that does work, but really they are more responsible for other things than they are responsible for moderating the threads.
I couldn't imagine being a graphic designer responsible for coding and maintenance of this website and then having to go and re-arrange and delete threads and deal with the occasional fussytude. There are a handful of girls on here who are professional enough to hold up to the standards of being a moderator. Plus, we're on here for free anyways! And this is my favorite forum to be on, so I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

Although health/fitness is beauty related, I really do feel that it was a good idea to get rid of health/fitness.
Why?
It is such a problematic subject, there are girls on here who suggest home remedies that are next to lethal on the skin, as mentioned above, I could only IMAGINE what craziness would come out of dieting and all this nonsense.
They can go to a health and fitness forum where there are nutritional experts interacting with the community that are part of or working for the site. Simple.

I can understand why they deleted offtopic, people would be posting naked pics like it was all good and everyone defending it because 'we are human blah blah'.
No, I don't want to see your cooch, I have my own thanks and this site isn't for 21 years and older so get over it lol.
And then there was a lot of talk of sex and all that, and like I said we do have younger girls on here so I can see why. There are laws that have to be obeyed and followed by BL and they aren't going to break them to please us and get a big fat lawsuit by an angry parent.

Kitty K. "I don't want to see your cooch" 😂😂😂😂 dying lol.

People where seriousely posting nudie pics?? Uhh... I agree no need to see that!

Shauna S.

I fully support all of you with what you're going through/or have already been through so I just don't want this to be taken the wrong way. I think that really any website where you can talk to people will be triggering in some way to people. I don't think there will ever be a website that is considered to not be triggering. I don't totally agree with fitness being fully unrelated to beauty. Lots of people on here are more interested in skincare and wellness for your body which also can include fitness. Also many people find this website can be motivational about fitness or diet suggestions as well. I am fully aware that those topics can also be taken the opposite way as well. So many things on here could be triggering to people, even just looking at other people's makeup and/or fashion could trigger someone who is self conscious about their looks, style, etc. I don't really think it should be banned from Beautylish, I would hope that if people find it triggering that they should avoid reading those types of posts. Also, taking away the health and off topic categories upset a lot of people on here. All I'm saying is that you will never be able to please everyone on a social media website and you just have to do your best to avoid things that are upsetting to you personally and be supportive of others that have different interests.

Jan 21, 2014

Mio S.

@kitty I haven't been on here that long and now I'm pretty happy I haven't that is ridiculous that girls would do that! And I completely agree , makeup is different. You can't harm yourself by doing it like you can if someone gives you wrong dieting advice or home remedies that can severely hurt you. Stuff like that should be left to professional websites not where inexperienced people tell you what they think. Something severe can happen to someone

Paula M.

I'm with shauna on this one! You can't please everyone. A lot of ppl would be upset with it being removed and vice versa. You should just avoid it!

Jan 22, 2014

Yaya B.

I don't see what's the big deal.. not everyone will find this non beuty related if you feel good you look good and in my opinion being healthy makes you feel good and that topic should have never been deleted.

Jan 22, 2014

Mistreece L.

Yep you said it Shauna^^ I believe its all intertwined. I certainly don't agree with some of the fitness topics but I don't agree with a lot of the other topics as well. I personally avoid em when I can.
At Jennifer, it makes me feel sad that you're having this reaction to them. I feel like with your experience you probably be an asset and help others who are in need right on this very app.
If not, then yes try your best to ignore these particular posts and not get frustrated. I pray your recovery goes well:-)

Hello Ladies.I'm back from a long weekend with my family and Only went on BL when I was able too have free time and Jacqueline has been busy with her Big Move but will return this evening.I notice as I'm looking through all of the Hoopla that so many may not understand the rules or just choose to ignore it and let just say this and HOPE that all may take this seriously Now when off-topics or other unrelated beauty subjects are posted they do get deleted BUT here's the thing (MUST READ THIS PART! PLEASE,PAY ATTENTION)You only get so many Chances and if you continue to make off topic or unrelated beauty topics you could and will be BANNED from Beautylish,This is why I go to threads and suggest things to help all get the Hint or help you all be aware. Now here's another thing The Team of Beautylish also moderate once in awhile so that is why we stress to all Please email help@Beautylish.com when you have an issue and can't seem to find me or Jackie because we too have to sleep Lol so Jennifer I understand your concerns and here is the thing from my understanding, Nothing about weight loss should be posted that's an automatic delete it's not beauty related Just like threads about Man Crushes That is NOT Beauty related, this is Beautylish whether we agree or disagree, this is Beautylish Policy we can't be on a site and demand everything to be changed to please the masses. This site started without health n wellness or off-topic section those two subjects where only added for a small time and the site decided to remove them and I understand most miss it but like a break up you must move on from the EX and look forward. :) I will however double check with the BL team about your concerns.

Hi guys,

First, I truly apologize for the lack of clarity around fitness and how it correlates with beauty. I'm unsure how many of you guys read our editorial articles, but we're all about staying beautiful from the inside out! From smoothie recipes to Getting FIt with Kit, we believe this should be a part of everyone's beauty regimen. We are likely seeing a lot more of these pop up with everyone's New Years resolutions and that is A-OK.

That being said, one of the reasons the Health & Wellness section was removed was exactly the reason that Jennifer had said. We don't want to promote losing 20 lbs in 2 days, obtaining a "thigh gap" or anything that promotes negative well being. In my mind, that's not beauty, and it will get deleted. We're sorry if these posts have offended any of you, especially Jennifer (PS great job with your recovery!) and we are always looking to beef up our moderation team. Believe it or not, everyone helps out over here at Beautylish. You've probably seen both Bill (one of our engineers) and Nils (our CEO) around here so don't hesitate to reach out to any of us either! We're always here to help!  xoxo
