I personally find curls prettier than straight hair. There are a couple of things you should bear in mind before coloring your hair. There's always some damage to your hair after te coloring process and as long as I can see, your hair is kind of thin. I would give it a shaping trim, no more and work on pampering it with masks, good conditioning and give heat a break. See how your hair reacts to its natural condition and then, decide wether you want it colored or not. I'm not a big picture poster because in my opinion, reality tends to be pretty far from what we see in those pics.

Sometimes color make hair appear thicker as it coats the hair-as long as you are not bleaching it. Perhaps a very slightly warmer brunette color will be just what you need. Btw, as someone with hair that refuses to hold even a wave, I like the curls. Like Mariana E. mentioned above it might be best to pamper and not straighten your hair for a bit.
