Hmmmm any ways I can improve? Is it nice?!

First pic didn't come out right

I wouldn't call it a smokey eye! But it's still awesome! I would just smoke it out more, and bring the black higher but only by a bit, use brown or light gray in the crease and then blend it out!

True! Thanks! Here's another picture. They don't seem to come out clearly enough

Isabel is correct, it's not a smokey eye, smokey eyes are darker and more intense, whereas you seem to have applied some smokey eyeliner. It's very pretty, though I recommend you ask Jacqueline H for her explanation of what a smokey eye is!

Pretty! But be sure to bring the black to your crease and smoke it out from there and line your waterline with black if you're trying to get a true smokey eye Xx

Yea, I used brown. I was afraid it might've been too intense. So if I make it even darker you guys don't think it will look too overwhelming?

Feb 17, 2014

Hannah K.

Well, dark is the purpose of a smokey eye, so if it's not dark it isn't a smokey eye.

Okie! Thanks! I'll try it again next time!

Exactly what Isabel & Hannah said (: smokey eyes are meant to be dark & dramatic, so I wouldn't worry about getting too intense. just make sure you use transition colours so it looks blended & seamless, as opposed to looking like you got punched in the eye, lol! here's another good example of a classic smokey eye:

Actually, although this doesn't qualify for a smokey eye, smokey eyes do not necessarily have to be dark- just have a darkened gradient going throughout the crease and lightening up at the lash line, creating that 'smokey' effect. And what's considered 'dark' is different for everyone- me, a brown is plenty dark.

This is a good example of what I'm talking about- it's smokey, but not necessarily 'dark'.

That's not a smokey eye. Trust me. That's literally called a gradient eye. What a smokey eye is, is a dark color all over the lid, blended into a lighter color at the crease, with the lightest color under the brow bone.

No offense but you guys can "correct" each other without using so much attitude. Different people have different opinions on what a smokey eye is. They can be dark and they can be light. Personal preference

This was my first smokey eye I always thought I was doing colorful smokeys too then I learned smokey eyes were infact dark all over the lid smoking out or upward on your crease I followed along with Jaclyn hills smokey eye on YouTube I really liked how mine turned out for my first try.

Leslie, no one is trying to be sassy, and I apologize if it comes across that way. However, this is a really common misconception in the beauty world. Smokey eyes are dark, deep and intense, and there's no such thing as a "light smokey eye" if you'd like to be technical about it. And honestly, I do strive to keep people informed. Again, if my responses came across as sassy, I do apologize for that.

@Jessica, I'm sorry but what you described is a gradient eye. the actual definition of a smokey eye is what Hannah said. you can also talk to Jacqueline H. if you want c:
@Leslie, unfortunately when you're a makeup artist (or someone working towards becoming a mua), it's not so much about personal preference, & more about learning & achieving the proper technique.. Brit posted asking about her smokey eye, & we gave her textbook descriptions/examples. & I don't think anyone was giving attitude.

I believe you all are just trying to help me out and in the end I really appreciate it :) don't get in a fuss and be happy! I'm glad I know the correct method to do a smoky eye now! And I've learned what gradient eyes are too! I'm new to makeup soo... Thanks y'all

@Brianna F Your smokey eye looks gorg! I love it, what products did you use?

Feb 18, 2014

I would intestify the black by smudging black liner on the top lashline packing in more black eyeshadow on the lid, and using a transition color in the crease to blend everything in.

Thank you Olga I used all coastal scents eyeshadows just a matte brown matte taupe and a matte black and underneath as a base I used mabellines color tattoo in grey I don't remember the name but that's really all I used oh and just a cream matte color for highlight.
