What should I charge for doing makeup?

Hello! I'm new to this but I wanted some of y'all's advice.

I am going to start doing makeup for proms and pageants.

I am not sure how much to charge just for makeup and that's where I want all of y'all's opinion.

Obviously, I would do;

•Foundation,concealer,etc.
•Eye Shadow
•Mascara
•Eye Liner
•Lipstick
•Eyebrows

I'm sure you figured all that and sorry if I left something out. I am typing this rather quickly.
Again, just give me an idea of a price range you think is good and reasonable.
NOTE: I will be using all my makeup.

$40 is a good base to start off with. It also depends on the brands. I mean if you use all lower end I wouldn't pay $40 even if it turned out well if that makes sense. I wish you luck though! You'll do great!

I know for a fact I would use some of my Naked 2 Palette for eyeshadow.
I wouldn't use anything that's super cheap.

True, I have two actually. The Naked 2 I mentioned above and also a mini version that cost around $27-$30.

Not once have I thought would a client or even ten clients would use up a whole palette. If I thought a client would use up a whole Naked Palette I would charge wayyyy more than 35-40. Just saying. Lol

Haha very true. Plus when you start off and charge cheaper people will come to you because of the price but they'll come back and spread your name around because of your work.

Definitely agree with Jacqueline. Also, the relationships you build with your clients are also highly important, and will ultimately be the reason behind them coming back or never coming back, it's about the experience. I personally think that charging 30-50 is really nothing (believe me, I've even charged people $25 just to get the practice and it wasn't worth the hard work I did) but it really does narrow down to your work, time, products, skills, whether you're on call/freelancing or they are coming to you. Those are things that should be thought of when coming up with a price list. I do both hair and makeup, some think my prices are crazy but others, really like the company, and if they really enjoy you they will come for you

Personally, with hair and makeup with falsies, I would definitely pay $45-$50 dollars. Maybe even more if you use higher quality things. Would you be going to the person's house? If so, you should always raise the price a teenie bit to accommodate travel expenses. :)

Thanks Gen! If I just did makeup I'd probably charge around $30 and a little more for falsies. Altogether for hair and makeup I would do $45-50. So I agree with what you said Kaitlin. Plus I would definitely travel too. So I would charge a little more for that as well.
