I just love putting makeup on my eyes because for me I feel like that's what I want a person to see first.
So recently when I was removing my makeup it burnt a bit so I decided to change my makeup remover because I thought it was expired. I bought a new one yesterday, I tried it on my skin without makeup just to see what the texture was like since they said it was creamy and it felt fabulous so I bought it.
Yesterday night I went to remove my makeup and it burnt soooo bad for about 20mins and this morning my eyes lids were so puffed up! and are still now too. It's nearly a battle to keep them open..
I went to the doctor and said that I might most probably be allergic to makeup..
Have any of you girls ever experienced this?

I would suggest checking the ingredients and possibly switching over to hypoallergenic makeup or maybe even vegan products.

I haven't :/ compare the ingredients in both removers. it might just be one ingredient you're allergic to.

I have a client that's severely allergic to most make up and she says the one brand she can use is Tarte. I'm not sure which ingredients they use over others but I would suggest asking your doctor to send you to a specialist for an allergen test. Maybe it's more than one ingredient but its better to find out with a test than mess around with your eyes.

Hypoallergenic means nothing. It basically just means most people won't be allergic to them there's no guarentee.

You might just be allergic to the remover.

I'd consult a derm. That's a terribly broad diagnosis. A derm may be able to narrow down key ingredients to avoid.

Yeah definitely stay away from eye make up for a bit until your eyes are better. I'd probably use olive oil to remove make up instead. don't use Vaseline near your eyes though. it seals in bacteria & can cause an eye infection.

Oh wow. I'm so sry to hear this! The other girls have given some good advice. Def give urself a break from the makeup. Did you ever have any experience prior to this of an allergic reaction to makeup or just recently?

I'd take benadryl to ease reaction. List ingredients and go to an allergist and for now find an alternative remover. Olive oil perhaps

I would definitely get an allergen test before you accept the general diagnois of being allergic makeup. That's what I had done and I learned that a particular preservative that is very common is what brings on allergic dermatitis. When you see a specialist I would bring the skincare products along with the eye makeup remover. It sounds to me that it might be the eye remover because you received an reaction immediately after use.

I agree with Naomi F, coconut oil is an excellent makeup remover and it soothes the skin.

If you used eye makeup before I don't think your allergic to that now if it was after that new makeup remover it's most probable that that's your problem use a more natural product like coconut oil as mentioned or olive oil n then wash

Why don't you use a good baby wipes like lyvs or pampers to remove your make up or even baby oil does the trick but make sure you wash your face really good after...as for now don't irritate it anymore with any products.

I would sugues like most girls on here that you stay away from any make because you said your reaction is bad and it's all over the body... Go to a dermatologist and get an allergen test instead of trying other alternatives

I went to beauty school with a girl that had that prob. She found shadows that worked. Research the the crap out of allergic reaction to eye makeup, allergy sensitive brands, possible ingredients that can be prob, etc.and you can prob find smthg that'll be fine. Give it a break but don't give up!! Good luck.

I'm sorry that this is happening to you. I had a problem about a year ago. It turned into orbital cellulitis. What an awful experience. I believe that I'm allergic to nail polish. If you touch your eyes within 4 hours of applying. I no longer use polish and haven't had a problem since. Did you apply polish the day it happened?

You poor thing! Definitely see a specialist since it's not only affecting your eyes, but your skin all over. (If I understood correctly.) I wouldn't use anything other than tepid water until you see a doctor. Even "natural" products can cause side effects. I'd make sure you sanitize your brushes and makeup too. Feel better!

Ouch I'm so sorry! First like others have recommended you should go get tested to see what you are allergic to before you touch makeup or makeup remover again. A allergic reaction can get worse every time you get into contact with the allergen, though not likely swelling one time can be a warning sign for full anaphylaxis the next. It's just not worth the risk.

if it does end up being your remover, blinc mascara is a nice waterproof mascara that doesn't need makeup remover, it slides off with warm water and pressure!

good luck!
