So I have been applying for jobs like crazy as I really need one. I applied last night for a Beauty Advisor position at Macy's last night and got an email back today requesting an interview. So I scheduled an interview next thursday! I am nervous but really excited. Wish me luck! :)

Good luck Jeny! Knock 'em dead!

Hey congrats.. I was really excited when I got the same interview at a local Macys. Since my interview was pretty much a total fail I thought I might be able to pass on the experience I had with them.
1. Willing to work for minimum wage or just above. Don't even ask about commission- the woman interviewing me was like "you better be willing to work for the hourly and not expect comissions." The hourly was like $8.00/hr- that was DEF not going to work for me.
2. Saying you're still in school is a no no. I simply wasn't willing to give up school to work at Macys. The woman said that was a total dealbreaker because my work schedule was going to subject to change from week to week.
3. More than experience with makeup they are looking for a SALESperson. She asked about my sales experience over and over because they really push you to sell more products and also to push their stupid credit card.

I really hope it works out for you if it's what you're looking for and hopefully your experience is better than mine was!

Good luck, let us know!

Hey congrats and good luck :) x

Good luck! :D

Angela: Not telling them you're in school is also a bad idea. If you're told that the schedules will clash, that just means that you'll have to wait until you're out of school. Why? Well, what if they constantly schedule you for work when you have class? That's just a waste of money.

ALright so I also had an interview earlier this week at Kohls, they called and offered me a job last night. I really however would rather work for Macys obviously because working at a makeup counter is more in my career field. I had my second interview this morning and it went really great. At the end she said she would call me, so on advice of my family and friends, I told her about my other job offer and how I have to let them know by sunday if I want to take that job, but I told her I would really prefer the job at Macy's because it is what I am passionate about. It kind of seemed like her mood changed for the bad side after I told her that. She said she would talk it over with the other people and call me ASAP, that was early this morning, I haven't heard anything I was hoping she would get to calling me today. I hope I didn't mess up my chance of getting this job. I need to take the other one if I don't have the interview yet for Macy's. I hate being in limbo.

Aw, that's not a fun position to be in! And I hope I didn't come off as a total Debbie Downer with my earlier post about my disaster interview... I was just so disappointed after I left I thought sharing my experience might prepare you for the worst! If I've learned anything about retail it's this- they want you to pretty much be their slave- when the tables are turned and they're have to answer to YOU they get all uncomfortable. At least you did the mature and responsible thing and told them the truth about your situation. Sounds like you're in high demand so if it doesn't work out with Macy's it's clearly their loss!

Don't worry about it Angela! I know you were just looking out for my best interest! :) No worries at all. I did call them today and they said that the first manager I interviewed with wasn't there over the weekend, so they would be touching base today, and that they had a couple more interviews left to do. So I should know soon what the deal is.  :)
