I'd love to know about your guys' studies and what college you're going to/want to go to and what you're majoring or minoring or anything in? I'm going to be a juinor in highschool soon and I'm very undecided ahah. So yes! Tell me what you're up to!

Hey Andrea! It's okay if you haven't decided what you want to do yet. I didn't figure it out until a couple months before I ended my senior year in high schooll. And then before my freshman year in college started, I moved so I took off almost a year before starting college. So there's no major rush, make sure it's what you REALLY want to do instead of deciding on a whim. :)
I'm majoring in Voice and Performance to become a choral director. Always loved being involved in music, theatre, etc.

I'm starting college in a few months and I'm majoring in Elementary Education and the school I'm going to if you take a few extra classes you can get certified to teach Middle School as well, so I'm going to be doing that. :) At one point I wanted to do Youth Ministries, but I'm not sure if I'm still going to do that or not.

@ Steph M how exciting! Is that something that you've always wanted to do?

My university has a major called "Interdisciplinary Studies" and basically I have to choose two areas of concentration along with a minor, so my concentrations are commerce & art history with a minor in marketing :) If becoming a makeup artist doesn't work out, I would love to work at an art museum! :)

@Leslie J. -My goal was to become a Lawyer, but I dont have the patience for all that studying and work, but i've always wanted to work with the police department and the government, so I thought this would be the best bet! I took Psych 100 and found it so interesting and fell in love with the class! I knew that if it was something I found really interesting and pushed myself, I can absolutely do it :) I hope to be like Dr. Huang from Law and Order: SVU (if you watch that show!)

I'm about to transfer from my community college to a university as an "art foundation major..." Two years and an associates degree and I'm practically starting over. :[ I'm hoping to get into the graphic design program, though.

@Gabbi: That's what I plan on doing(CC then University) is it a good route? Or would you recommend going straight into university? I also want to major in graphic design and of coarse cosmetology haha xD I am a senior in high school right now so I am trying to figure out the best route to take to getting my degree :)

Kassie- I know you asked Gabbi, but I did community college first then transferred to university, and in my opinion it is really the best thing! You save money, and after two years at community college, at least you have your associates degree because sometimes life gets in the way and some people aren't able to complete their bachelors. Best of luck to you! :)

I go to California State University Long Beach and I am majoring in Studio Art/Illustration. One more year and I'm done. I paint mostly but I would love to do tattoos, character/concept design for movies and video games, and illustrate children's books. I really hope its not a dead end career choice :x

@Brianna: Thanks so much! That was the main reason I started considering Community college, to save money. And they whole environment seems less stressful than going for a high school class to a university you know?

Kassie: For me, it was needed as I didn't have the... best high school career... ^^;; Even without that, it wasn't a bad choice... I feel like I've learned things that will be helpful, gotten my gen eds out of the way [and then some... I seriously think I have enough gen eds for two people...], and, for me, they've only looked at my pretty college record and not my ugly high school one. The downside is that you have to be prepared to start over completely at a new school. A lot of things won't transfer, especially those related to art. Out of several classes, only two of mine will come with me and those are Drawing I and 3D Design [counting as sculpture]. I will have to retake Graphic Design I and may have to retake Drawing I because I need to pass a portfolio review to get into Graphic Design and, well... let's just say I'm more confident in my drawing abilities than my sculpting. The portfolio review depends on the school you transfer to, but I know for sure that almost nowhere will take most of your art classes.

@Kassie K : I know you asked Gabbi but I figured I chime in with what I know because I'm doing the same (a state college to university). :)
It all depends on preference. To be quite honest, the first two years at a university is a waste as far as tuition. Depending on the university, you'll be paying a lot more for the same thing at half price at a community college. All your doing your first two years are your pre-requisites (math, language, science, etc). Your last two years (for Bachelors Degree) is when you focus on your major. Kids normally go to universities mainly for the "college experience" which is totally fine but I just preferred doing my first two years at a state college for financial relief. lol. After I'm done with two years at my state college, I'll be transferring over to a university to focus on my major.
I suggest doing a lot of research. Go online and visit school sites that you are interested in, whether it be community or university and see what every one has to offer. Check the community college transfer programs. If you're a senior in high school, utilize the guidance counselors and college reps all you can to get any information or questions you need answered! It sure does help.

Kassie- yea it definitely is way less stressful. The only "downer" (if you even want to call it a downer) is that I find that community college is super easy. But I went to a college prep high school and the work I did in my high school honors & AP classes were way harder than my community college classes! I guess it's an easy A and a better GPA, but sometimes I like a challenge (I suppose I'm weird lol!). But I know a bunch of people who find a good challenge in community college, it just depends on your high school experience :)

@Gabbi: Oh wow, that sucks! But then again I wouldn't mind retaking art classes because hey I LOVE ART! haha I would hate to have to retake the basics again though: English, math etc. Those classes are always so boring haha xD

@Kassie K - I was planning on doing CC for 2 years and then transferring to university to save money, but decided against it because you don't get the 'college experience' like you would at a university. My parents used to work at the university I'm attending and from hearing them talk about it and from visiting it seems like it would be a lot more fun and I'd be a lot more happier there than a CC. That's just me though, :) Some people just want to get their degree and get out and I understand that! :)

Kassie: True... The only thing was when they told me I'd be there another 4 years was "...so, I'm going to be 25 when I graduate... and I'm going to have to get loans for 4 years... welllll, that sucks." HA! On the bright side, it helps me feel a bit more ready for my portfolio review! :D And I loves mah graphic design and drawing classes. ;3 I also got to take a computer art class that they don't seem to have where I'm transferring. Also loved that.
Alyssa: That's actually not necessarily true. I'm not saving money, I'm losing a lot because I have to be there 4 full years thanks to the specific ordering of certain classes. I also have to make sure I'm full time so I can get SOME financial aid, but helloooooo debt...

Wow you guys are so helpful and amazing!! Never thought I would find College info here but it is MUCH appreciated!! You guys are so awesome!! ♥
@Erica: Yeah I know what you mean, I do want that college experience as well but I don't think I will be able to find the fiances for it. Plus I hate wasting money and if the first two years are pretty much the same wherever you go than I would prefer to choose the cheaper route. I am a big ball of stress so adding to it with an expensive college would be bad xD haha
@Alyssa: thank you so much for the info!! Getting first hand accounts is way better than hearing what my mom thinks would be better(she waited till her forties to go to college so her perspective would be different)
You guys have helped so much!!

@Gabbi: wow. Again, I guess it depends on the circumstance. When i was in high school, I had an assigned guidance counselor who never prepped me for after high school and I basically had to learn things on my own. So I'm just going by what I've learned and the situation I'm in. And girl, I KNOW what you mean about financial aid. Don't get me started. lol.
@Kassie: No problem! Just remember every situation is different like Gabbi said so just do your research. :)

Alyssa: Haha, yeeeah... guidance counselors at my high school basically went "So, what are you doing after high school? ...oh, okay." I wasn't particularly surprised at many classes not transferring, I'd heard that they probably wouldn't since I started them, but I somehow still didn't think I'd be there 4 years... And yes... financial aid is... well, a bit of a pain... *twitch* XD
