Lancome has been popular way before Michelle Phan.

I have to disagree with u on that..that's funny cause i don't see any gurus using it or promoting it b4 her..and what do u think about the line?

Michelle Phan has tarnished the company in a certain way, for her lack of knowledge pertaining to product usage, and also her makeup skills. SMH. The gurus started using because the company has been sending out their products solely for marketing strategies. I love Aaron De Mey and his visions, injecting life to the company and their seasonal collections.

Regarding their products - skincare-wise there are other similar alternatives since the brand belongs to parent company L'OREAL. Case in point - Genefique & L'oreal Youth Code. Similar ingredients with same "research for 10 years yada yada" claim.
As for their makeup, I currently own couple of their eyeshadows, mascaras, uber-sticky Juicy Tubes etc. They are pretty decent but there are better ones out there. Their Ombre Magnetique for instance, isn't up to par with ARMANI's Eyes To Kill - http://www.atelierbeauty.com/?p=1718
Seems that the company is prone to spend more time on marketing than anything else, IMO
Signing on Michelle Phan was, no doubt, strategic but her targeted demographics are mainly young teens stretching to early 30s(?). But in the long run, people might stay away from Lancome altogether when they've seen her newer videos.

That company has been around for years, so to say she made that company what it is...is kind of reaching it. Plus most people don't even like the fact that Lancome uses her to promote their products. *shrugs* I'll agree to disagree.

^ I agree with Raisa. I have never seen a video of Michelle Phan and I have known about lancome even before I started really getting into makeup. I don't think she made then "big" or anything, because I've always liked their products.

I've known about Lancome for YEARS way before youtube even existed. I used to LOVE this brand! I still have several items in my collection, however I stopped purchasing when I learned that they are owned by L'oreal who does animal testing. That's a whole different subject....If it weren't for animal testing, I would still be buying their stuff!
As for Michelle Phan, I don't watch her vids! I heard about her after she became "big" on the youtube scene, so I checked out one of her vids. I didn't like what sounded like "scripted voice over" tutorials, so I did not subscribe. I'm sure she has made a huge profit for Lancome!! Marketing works and they were smart about choosing her - her target audience is more than likely young impressionable girls who will run out and buy what she's using because they want to achieve the same look she's showing on her channel.
I don't know that I would go as far as saying that SHE has made the company what it is, but I do think she has definitely had an impact on the company's success.

I find it Very hard to believe you all haven't seen her videos....but ok @Raisa that's wat it is you don't like that fact that they used her point blank.. she must be doing something rite you all know her name an that she represents them.. and yes @Mandy k. they need to work on that pricing it way too much for the people they are promoting to. @Jackee yes it was smart of them to pick her cause a lot of young girls are looking in to there products a little more

hahaha. ASIDE FROM YOUTUBE, my mom has been using their products since way before michelle phan. probably 10, 15 years? she would always give me the little sets that came as free gifts with her purchases. she uses the eye makeup remover (i use it when i'm out of mine, it's amazing!) and the rejuvenizing stuff. she also uses something that clears up her dark spots, which aren't even that dark, but she refuses to ever wear concealer of foundation. so i have tried a bunch of their eyeshadows, and lipglosses. both are pretty great although there IS a ton of drugstore brands that are better than them. although i won't be BUYING from them because of them testing on animals, my mom refuses to stop because of their anti-aging products. they're super expensive, though!

Usage of makeup by some YOUTUBE *"gurus" = all of it's popularity? lolwut.
* = used loosely.
I don't purchase much Lancome - My mom would use it a lot when I was younger though. She'd give me little things here & there & notice it was from Lancome.
I didn't pay much attention to the brand until I noticed that it was owned by L'oreal - I then branched out to buying YSL, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Vichy, etc since they're all owned by L'oreal. This happened in 2006 though - A bit before Michele Phan was even around ;)

I have only used the hypnose drama mascara by them and I am not a fan of that product at all, very wet formula and clumped my lashes all over, I was dissapointed.

Lancome has great matte eye shadows, there makeup remover is the best I have used except for the price. I love the lipsticks and glosses too! I knew about them since I was little cause my mother and aunts would go and buy stuff and Michelle Phan to me is kind of tarnishing the brand since she isn't a real MUA.
