There are better alternatives that are INSTANT! I'm OBSESSED with the Fake Bake foaming tan. It's instant, it tans your skin in addition to instant color, and there is no smell. A little goes a long way and it dries super fast! Use it with rubber gloves so your hands don't turn super brown :)
I swear by this product! Get it on Amazon.com--It's worth the money!

I have tried so many self tanners. I try to stay away from tanning beds though I love it. My favorite so far is http://www.sttropeztan.com/ they have great lotions, sparys and my favorite is the foam. I use it on my face every other day and I don't even have to use foundation those days. The color is great, a nice brown and not at all orange.

Have you tried St. Moriz? I've heard it's really good and it's cheap :) you can buy it from Bodycare or Savers

OMG I'm addicted to the brand Fake Bake! The salon I go to uses that for their spray tan and it literally lasted for three weeks on me! Victoria's Secret also has an uhmazing line of self tanners. I highly reccomend those as well.

An alternative point of view...
Personally, I don't like fake tan products. We don't get along at all. IMO, better to wear sunscreen and get your colour naturally and gradually from the sun, or learn to love your pale skin.
