Hi, I have oily and acne prone skin, and I am on the search for a new cleanser..
I am currently using Clinque 3 step system, level 3, and it worked initially but hasn't been working as effectly lately. It works really well to keep my oil under control, but not so much the acne.
I was on proactiv for 5 years, and it worked really well. But it bleaches my hairline.
I have also used neutrogena acne wash, and had subtle results.
I'm torn between going back to proactiv, as it really worked, but I don't want a bleached hairline.
Can you recommend any similar products to proactiv without the same side affects?

The clean & clear advantage 3 in 1 foaming wash or exfoliating wash is good, it helped me get my skin clear again. also i swear by purity made simple by philosophy, my skin was acting up due to "that time on the month" and i was getting little red pimples and red spots all over and my skin just didnt look clean until i started using that and it worked miracles. i've been meaning to get myself a big bottle of it since i got the 10 dollar bottle which is small. but i'm really picky about my skincare, so i dont have that many "to die for" products besides those three

I recommend using Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash Oily/Combination Skin its an all natural face cleanse paraben & cruelty free :) it comes in a 8 fl oz. bottle.. You can get this product from Puritans Pride at Puritan.com for $9.29 but right now they have a 30% off so its $6.09.. Its an amazing product to use.. They also have facial cleansing pads..
I feel like most store brands contain harsh chemicals that do not do much for the skin but that's my personal opinion.
Hope this helps

Proactiv is great but can be harsh for some skin types. The doctors that created it (Rodan + Fields) have moved on and created a gentler, more advanced line of skincare products...one being UNBLEMISH for Acne and Post-Acne Marks.
It's clinically proven to break the entire acne cycle...unclogs pores, clears breakouts and calms your complexion...it also fades the spots left behind after the breakout. The 4 step regimen also contains an oil controlling SPF 20!
I've attached a pic of an actual user so you could see a great before and after...oh, you also have get a 60 day money back guarantee with the products, not bad, huh?!
Hope this helps :)

I hated Proactiv! I used it back in middle school when my acne wasn't so bad. I think I was on it for maybe...4-5 months, and as soon as I stopped, I broke out BAD. I'm not talking like 5 pimples. I'm talking full-face. All over. And I have a ton of scars from it now too. I've been using Cetaphil as a cleanser, Booth's organic tea tree therapeutic toner and First Aid Beauty Daily Face cream as a moisturizer. I found that these products are very gentle and since they're organic/don't contain chemicals, I don't break out anymore. I absolutely love FAB and the way Cetaphil doesn't dry my skin out. And as an exfoliator, I just mix some salt in with the cleanser and once a week I use a salt/honey mask. I have the same skin type as you and I have very sensitive skin as well.

I've been using the Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser. It contains only 0.5% Salicylic Acid and I think that might be why it works so well. I've asked myself if maybe the reason nothing else has been working for me is because of all the Salicylic Acid in the product. You know what they say, sometimes things can make you break out MORE if they're too harsh on your skin. Anyway, I've been using this for 5 days and my breakouts are significantly cleared up.

I have oily skin, I wake up and I take a paper napkin and see the oil on my face after I use it. So I use Mark 'that's deep' celanser, with 'backme up anti-acne sray, and 'matte chance' lotion. It works well for me. I on ocasions still get break outs but I dont look like I got the chicken pox.

If you want a drugstore cleanser I like CeraVe foaming cleanser. My skin is oily, sensitive and very acne prone and it does not irritate it. Mario Badescu also has great cleanser at Ulta under $20!

I just did a too long video on acne prone skin, the cause and how to treat it. I also explain proactiv and the reasons why it fails to work. Check it out and I hope it helps.

Everyone is going to have different opinions. We all have cleansers that work for our specific skin types. I HAD horrible acne skin growing up, and when people tell me now how flawless I look and what's the secret behind my skin I tell them what works for ME. My make-up remover of choice is MAC Professional Eye make-up remover (eyes only) Check and balances cleanser by ORIGINS, It gets rid of my make-up entirely and it doesn't leave me feeling tight, and I finish the night doing the 3 step proactiv. You've tried it before and it worked (I don't get it around my hairline, I use cloth headbands) and in the morning it's proactiv again and off to make-up with primer to start. Like I said, everyone has different things that work for them. We can name off tons of recommendations but ultimately it's up to you and what works for you. :)

I have oily/combination acne prone skin and have recently started using a regimen from Mario Badescu. So far, I really like the line I got! The beauty of MB is that you can go to the website, www.mariobadescu.com, fill out a questionnaire, and they will send you personalized samples for your skin type! It's great for giving you an idea of what works before you actually buy it. I highly recommend checking them out!

I recommend the Murad Clarifying Cleanser. Out of all the cleansers I've tried before, this one does the best job at reducing breakouts. Since it's a gel/liquid cleanser, it can be a bit drying. So I would only use it during the summer and fall. I'd also recommend using this cleanser with the Murad Exfoliating Acne Gel. This product is pretty amazing in terms of controlling my acne. In the 30-day and 60-day kits, these 2 products are my favorites. Check them out if you are interested!

Going to echo a few other people here and suggest CeraVe! It has really changed my skin since I've started using it, and its super gentle. I've just started using the foaming cleanser (which is great for acne prone skin) and I love it! For spot treatment, I use Clean and Clear's Persa Gel. It contains benzoyl peroxide which is the same active ingredient used in Proactiv and most other acne treatments out there.
Whatever you use, be sure that is is gentle on your skin. The toner in the Clinique system you're using contains alcohol, which is really irritating and could be making your acne worse or preventing it from getting better. Clinique has another toner called "Mild Clarifying Lotion" which does not contain alcohol, so that would be a good option for toner. Also make sure you are using some kind of BHA exfoliant...the Neutrogena Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Treatment is supposed to be good, or anything from Paula's Choice (which is what I use).
Best of luck! :)

I would also recommend the Body Shop's Tea Tree line! I don't really have oily skin, but it did control my breakouts. It was way too drying for me, but my mom swears by it and she has really oily skin! So you should check it out, and its affordable(:
