Anyone try BB creams? What's your favorite? Are Asian formulas better than the new ones hitting the U.S.?

I've used Missha's #27, and The Face Shop's version, but Missha is the winner thus far. Great coverage, but holds up to 4 hours and then I get oily. The formula is thick, and hard to transfer (difficult to remove too... Needs an oil cleanser to do so) but I mix it with my MUFE HD to sheer it out and get SPF coverage, which is fantastic. I think it has an SPF coverage in the 50's!

Have yet to be impressed by American versions, but the Illamasqua Skinbase has similar ingredients. Missha just uses more natural oils, and I think Skinbase is "inspired" by bb creams, not an actual one... I'll wait until it comes to Sephora to try it for myself though.

What is BB cream? I am afraid to ask

They were originally formulated for people that underwent some form of surgery. It was supposed to cover scarring and help heal. People argue its origins are from Europe or Asia...

I find it's just another type of foundation with extra ingredients that can be beneficial to your skin's health and texture.

The original formulas were like one shade fits all, but left a grey cast on the face. Many are supposed to later oxidize to fit your shade, but I never liked that till Missha started coming out with different shades other than for really pale skin.

I find the "BB Cream" thing is being thrown around loosely with Americanized versions though... Like how the "organic" trend of makeup was being exploited as a marketing buzz word used as a selling point.

Estee Lauder is set to come out with a new BB cream soon if it hasn't already hit the counters already.

If they had a HELPFUL button here SOMA, You would have had my vote. Thanks for clarifying; greatly appreciated

No prob! These products have great potential, but even the American producers of this don't know what BB creams are... Heh. The good thing is, with the spread to the American market, the shade ranges are expanding. I just hope formulas are longer lasting, don't oxidize and have all the beneficial ingredients in them, like a BB cream should! (beauty blemish/balm cream)

Etude House BB Magic Cream is one of my favorites!

i love Skin79's Hot Pink BB cream (the one for oily skin, my mother has the Skin79 VIP Gold one for dry skin). i got cute miniatures for my mother and i and we liked them so much that we decided to get the biggest pump around (not the travel size one). my mother's convinced that the VIP Gold one makes her look younger. i'm just happy it doesn't worsen my acne problem.

i really like that it's kind of like a tinted moisturizer but better, it gives you a dewy look and after it oxidizes it makes you look like you're not wearing any make-up but still evens out your skin tone. it's the best thing i've ever had (but then again, the only foundation i've ever had was Bourjois Bio Detox Organic Foundation--which was an awful product that just smelled real nice). i also have a sample of an Etude or Skin Food or some other Korean brand one that i got from a purchase of something, but i haven't tried it yet because i like the Hot Pink one too much. :3

i did try the Maybelline one (it's waaaay cheaper than Skin79) but it made me breakout. i only used it twice. it's soooo runny. i bet if i did yoga in it, it would melt onto my shirt. :(

i looked up all the other non-Asian brands online: http://imabeautygeek.com/2011/11/21/bb-creams-what-the-newest-beauty-craze-is-all-about/ and i don't think i'm going to bother with any of them (except for maybe Clinique--my dermatologist is cool with Clinique).

the Skin79 one gets counterfeited a lot, though. so you need to learn how to tell whether yours is authentic. the real thing:
- has a perforated line where you can rip the box open and read instructions inside the box,
- has a hologram sticker,
- has a manufacturing/expiry date,
- and there's a subtle red circle on the box lid.

be careful. :)

I like Liole best, but I'm not sure whether you can find it in the US. And, BB stands for Blemish Balm. It has less coverage than foundation, kinda a combination between base+foundation. Its origin is Korea.

Oh, and the only one difference between those formula is undertone, i guess. Formulas that are provided in the US mostly, they have pink undertone.

So what exactly is inside BB cream? I have heard crazy rumors like they put placenta inside it? I doubt that is true but I am still pretty curious as to what is inside them that makes it so much better than regular foundation?

I tried Smashbox new BB cream today. I actually had to to mix medium and dark together to get a perfect match for my skintone. I normally don't like playing chemist with my make-up like that but oh my goodness.....this stuff makes my skin look flawless. I applied at 7am and its 8:38pm and I don't even have an oily face. My pores are non-existent and my skin still looks super fresh. I only applied my vitamin e+c serum and it was a little hard to work with since its so thick but I buffed it out with a sponge. I didn't set it with powder nor put on concealer it blurred my undereye dark circles and a few acne scars that normally require a touch of concealer. Despite having to play mix master I will totally make the investment providing I don't break out within the next few days. The rep at Sephora was very generous with the samples so I have a least a week supply. Keeping my fingers crossed....I really do like it.

LOL @ LeeAnn B.! (placenta!) hahah... Oh gross...! =P

I think some of the higher end ones market their formulas having stem cell research that attributed to their formula... Although I did google it and found this: http://theadventuresoftinay.blogspot.com/2011/09/gluta-placenta-bb-cream-by-glorious.html

I am not affiliated, but it looks like some do have the word "placenta" in the product name... (which makes me want to choke the marketing genius that came up with that as a selling point!) haha... *tears*

Formulas for bb creams vary, they should overall have not just pigments and oil control or moisturizing properties, but also have repairing and healing ingredients to them as well...(including high levels of SPF)
