Ok everyone, I need a honest opinion. Most of yall are younger than me on here, I am 36. While I have been doing makeup on friends/family for years..im really just gettting my business started..im not really a believer in "your too old to start something" but AM I TOO OLD TO BE STARTING THIS? is anyone going to want to take my advice and follow me since I am older. I do think I have a good business plan because my thing is not JUST makeup but using makup to help other woman feel good about themselves. I want to use my skills to help improve their self esteem..plus maybe the "older" crowd will want to follow me since im more their age. WHAT do yall think? im feeling discouraged because i cant get many followers on my blogs or facebook likes. i cant even get most of my friends to do so. just feeling discouraged, which isnt normally like me. HELP.
THANKS

NO! My mom never went to post secondary when she was a kid. When she was a few years older than you, still with my brother and I living at the house, she went and got her degree in Fine Arts. Now, 5 or 6 years later, she's an award winning artist.
I hardly tell my friends that I do youtube videos and blog and stuff. I kind of casually imply that I do it and gauge whether or not I should continue from their response =P
But please, don't stop! You are totally gorgeous, and youtube/the makeup community at large could use more mature gurus for sure! Every perspective deserves to be seen. It takes time, but once you've cemented yourself in the community it's so rewarding to have this many people available to talk about what you love at your disposal.
Hope to see you around (: ♥♥

i think i would be even more comfortable taking advice from an older woman :] i feel like you will seem like you're much more experienced and as smashley said, you're never too old to start anything! :]

You are never too old to start anything. Young or old it is very difficult to get out there when there are thoudands of beautys trying to make it. I am 28 and a mother of 3 and it is very difficult to do what I really want to do but being a mom comes first. It all takes time. As much as I wish it can happen over night it doesn't : ( You have to be positive and continue to do what you do. And if your friends are not supporting what you do then it is time to check who are your real friends.

Sam and Nic from Pixiwoo, Koren from EnkoreMakeup, and Lisa Eldridge are all over thirty. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say Marlena from Makeup Geek is in her late twenties. Maybe early thirties. But I lean more toward late twenties.
Anyway.
I also think we need more gurus that are late twenties/30+. So go for it! :)

There is no way that you are too old! If it's something your passionate about then it doesn't matter. I think you should just go for it and I know it can be hard to get noticed at the beginning but you'll start to get loyal followers and then other people will stumble across your blog hun!

My dad's childhood friend just graduated from university to finish their PhD... and she's 55. If you feel you can do it, do it!
Don't worry too much about getting too many followers. You DO have an audience. If you know your own social circles won't be interested in what you have to say, find a platform where you can find like-minded individuals that share your interest... [ie: Beautylish, Specktra, MUA, etc] and participate on other people's blogs. You'll slowly find people willing to follow you.
I have yet to let my friends know about my blogging just because I would like to see real strangers being interested in my content. I've been doing this for a couple of months now, and I'm very happy with the small and humble following I have. It's small, but it's mine. =)
It'll happen, and you don't need friends/family to support you. [Doesn't hurt to have it though....] You can always find people willing to listen on beauty forums! =)

You have more experience and maturity which I think is amazing. Everything has a different audience and your audience might not be the facebook using type. Keep it up! Don't give up on anything just because of numbers. If you love something, keep doing it!

Not at all! Older makeup artists/people in the business usually are way more respected than younger ones. :)

Let me tell you something, no matter how old you are. If you want to do something for your sake, then GO FOR IT! You shouldn't let anyone's opinion bother you if they were't supporting your idea! Trust me,just go after your dreams, you never know what it will end up like if you never tried! and plus it's your bussnies and trust me a lot of clients will be coming to ask for help, because I believe that just because you're 36 (which isn't old btw) I think i'd rather take advice from you than any other younger woman because you'd have more experience! so yeah just go for it and good luck :D xx

Kerrie,
I am 32 and just starting out, too. For the same reasons, looking my best on the outside has given me so much more confidence, it's like putting a pretty packaging on my inner beauty! And starting a YT channel, when I was so uncomfortable in front of the camera at first!! It's taken me out of my comfort zone, and that's been such a good thing. I hope you now know that you're not alone--and I hope everything just takes off for you. Best of luck!

You are never too old. I find myself with a similar problem that its hard to bring in clients bc my husband is in the military so we move around. I started a new fb fan page and trying to build up my likes hoping this will help. So when I found this site I was excited and happy all at once. Bc there are so many talented ppl on here. And plenty of advice you can get from professionals and ppl with your same situation. I just moved to CA and am trying to start over building up my reputation in this small town. But I wish you much luck in your dreams and aspirations!
