So im planning on getting my nose pierced next weekend, but i know im only going to wear it for four years (not appropriate for my future career). I was wondering if it will leave a scar once i let the hole close back up?

Yes but it will be very tiny (easily covered with conclear too)!!! And it will fade throughout the years but take a really long time. Just take care of it the first months of healing because if you get an infection that could lead to a bigger scar.

I not sure your future career but nose rings are pretty much socially acceptable now! I love mine =)

Oh ok, thank you! I know my friend has hers pierced and everytime she takes hers out it looks like a little mole and i dont want anything like that on my nose forever after i take it out!

And elementary education, on top of that i live in the Bible Belt so i dont think it would be appropriate, :(

Bible belt lol!!! Also the piercing place might have options of what size ring you want, so obviously the smallest one will give you the smallest hole which equals small scar.

Hey there, I had mine peirced, and now i have a scar, it almost looks greenish in color...it's pretty big too, BUT, mine is because i kept getting keloids (google them) and since i'd get them over and over, it really scarred it bad. i THINK i kept getting them because when i first got the piercing, it never properly healed because i was constantly taking it out and putting it back in for work.

even still, im actually going to get my nose re-peirced in a month or so..they're so cute!

I have to disagree with Ghadeer, do NOT clean your piercing with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, neosporin or anything like that!!! The piercing place should give you directions on how to clean it, the best way to clean it is by soaking it in sea salt water everyday. Pick a ring you like and do not touch or change it the first couple months!

yes dont clean your piercing with any type of alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. that's the worse thing you can do. the cheapest and easiest way to clean it is to just go and buy antibacterial soap(orange looking soap). dial soap is usually what i buy, since i can buy a big bottle and it'll last forever. you can also get some sea salt, and do a sea salt soak. your piercer will probably give you a little paper with all these items as well.

as for scarring, i still have my nose piercing but i took out my monroe. there is a little tiny scar there, but it doesnt bother me to much. like the other girls said you can easily cover it up with some concealer.

You shouldn't use alcohol because it's too strong, dries it out and kills cells that you need for healing.

I use to have my nose pierced and it left a scar in the side of my nose. It is more noticable when I don't wear makeup. I had to get mine pierced twice bc when I changed the jewelry my hole closed up :D it was not very fun. I use to clean my piercing with saline solution.

Hey.. I had mine pierced for a couple months but had to take it off because of my allergies.. I have a tiny little scar that I can only see if i'm very very close to a mirror and it doesn't bother me at all. go for it!

Just make sure to wash you nose with antibacterial soap when you first get it pierced, NEVER use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol on it. These will leave you with a chemical heal and will leave a more noticeable scar.

I agree with amanda and Nikki ANY piercing is to be cleaned with antibacterial soap and sea salt. I have my nose pierced for 9 years now and I have a Tiny gold stud MOST don't even recognize it. When I had gotten my ears pierced at the top is was the same steps but I too also had a keloid and the way to get rid of it is to take the earring out let it heal and repierce it and after you clean it put crushed aspirin on it and it shirnks it remarkably

This is probably a dumb question, but clean the inside and outside?
And thank yall for all the advice!!! I appreciate it! :)

Erica, you are going to soak your nose in sea salt water...in a little container or shot glass you will submerge your nose into the water and sit there for 10-15 minutes (kind of awkward but just watch tv haha) which cleans it inside and outside. You don't want to touch it or move it around at all.

I'm thinking I was pretty fortunate when I got my nose pierced. I got mine pierced when I was about 16 or 17 (I'm 40 now) at a little beauty supply shop and the lady did it there with a regular ear piercing gun. (yikes!). And she barely spoke English so all she did was give me a bottle of the cleaner you would get when you pierce your ears. I had no issues with it healing and in no time I was able to switch out the jewelry. I still wear it from time to time, although I have gone months without wearing it and have never had it close up on me. Early this year my daughter got her pierced and I told her NOT to do it the way I did. She went to a tattoo/body piercing shop and made sure to follow the instructions given to her. It took several weeks for it to heal, but she stuck to the sea salt/water combo. I sure hope you get other chances to wear it once you start your career. In my opinion, it's such a pretty piercing.

Haha I'm not an expert, I just have 8 piercings and the healing process is always the same.

DO NOT take out your nose ring to clean it!! Don't take it out at all until it is fully healed which can take a couple of months.

erica you can also use the antibacterial soap and a little q tip to clean the inside. i usually like to clean mine while im in the shower. its a lot easier that way. make sure to wiggle the piercing a little so you can get any kind of bacterial out of the actual hole. lol if your nose starts to get irritated, definetely use the sea salt soak. like amanda said, your gonna want to soak your nose for about 10-15 min and make sure the water is pretty warm. the irritation should go away in a few days. good luck! :)

I had mine pierced a few years ago. It healed fine but a small raised bump formed on the side of the piercing. It looked like a little bubble and I could not get it to go away. I always kept it clean, and it never appeared to be infected, but the bump looked so ugly that I finally just took it out and let it heal and the bump shrunk but never fully went away, so now I do have a scar on the side of my nose

mine left a small scar i have had mine out for 3 years and it can still be seen, I can usually only tell when I have a lot of powder products on my nose.

I'm thinking about taking out my nose piercing, but i'm not sure if i should clean it when i take it out or just take it out and just let it do it's own thing? Also, how long will it take to close?

I've had mine for 12 years now (yikes!) and I never intend to take it out, which is probably a good thing because I know that mine wouldn't heal shut haha, but my mom and sister in-law had theirs done and let the holes close after 2 or 3 years and you can seriously barely see them! However, both are Italian and have a lot of elastin in their skin so that may help. I think it'll really depend on your body and how big the gauge is. If you want it to be a super small hole stick with a 20 gauge instead of 18. When I originally had mine pierced this is what I opted for because I had to take it out at work. Obviously you want to go to a great piercing parlor, so they should have options. I eventually went up to 18 years later because of the specific nose screws I wanted, but 20 is very, very tiny! Good luck ;)

Oh and you may want to consider this tip if you're open to it! Real sea salt and warm water is the best way to cleanse the nose piercing while it's healing. That's actually what my piercing parlor sent me home with! Everyone I know that had piercings done (myself included) that used sea salt and warm water instead of the chemical solutions had better luck with not getting infections.

Here's a great how-to on it (I wouldn't do the soap as the residue may be hard to get out of the hole): http://www.steelnavel.com/body-piercing-body-aftercare.asp

Yay! I'm always excited when people get new piercings! I've had 40 + piercings and my nostril was one of my first. I've had it done twice. The first time I retired it because I was bored with it. I left it out for about 4 years and there was a small hole left after it closed up.

I've always had an issue with hypertrophic scarring (a bump that appears around the piercing) around my cartilage piercings. Saline or warm sea salt soaks (SSS) should get rid of this. You don't really have to dip your nose into a shot glass, it may be easier to just soak a cotton ball/pad and place it around the piercing until it cools, then repeat for 10-15 minutes, twice a day. I rarely use soap because it tends to be too drying for my skin and I don't like using antibacterial anything because of the potential to create resistant bacteria (it's not really known yet).

There are many different aftercare methods, but most piercers will be against using isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, surgical scrubs, and any ointments. Unless you become a seasoned piercing veteran, I suggest following the aftercare that the piercer provides. :)

I'm pretty sure even with that type of career you can have piercings, I know lots of people in that career path with piercings and tattoos, it just depends on what and if you pierce your nose you can just wear a small stud. I have mine and not a lot of people really notice it with it in. PLUS, I feel like this will definitely help, there's something called a retainer stud! you'll love it if you want to hide your piercing, its a clear nose ring, I put it in and you can't tell its there, you should look into those, it's easier than taking the piercing out in general.

I got mine pierced 3 times and the first 2 piercings came out but the scar that was left was very faint and I couldn't see it, the person that done my nose the third time only could😊
