Hey ladies, just curious how you guys feel about touching up FB or MySpace photos. I've known a lot of girls to do it (or just noticed that they'd done it)... Going too far? Whatdya think?

I think it's fine, I don't really care either way.

Agreed. I've always been secretly intrigued by these girls on MySpace that had those fabulously altered pics where they'd crank up the brightness and saturation. They were bright orange but looked awesome. I think I'm gonna start the trend again...

I've usually altered my pictures for the fun of it... Just a sort of messing with photoshop kind of thing... or trying to fix the weirdness my camera does... like turn pictures blue. >.>

Haha yeah, I used to be really guilty of doing that!

I love it! Now if only I could remember my photobucket password... lol

I think its fine. I like to do it if I want to make an artsy photo. If I want to take the picture for the sake of capturing a look then I want to keep it as true to the original as possible. But like Gabbi said its always helpful to correct any camera weirdness with color and lighting.

I use picasa for my photos and it can really change the look of the photo (in a good way). A lot of people do it now days and I think most of the pics look cool because theres so many effects that you could do.

I don't see a problem with touching up photos. I personally don't, just like red eye and balancing brightness and stuff, but I never actually alter the photo usually. I want the truest shot of my makeup work possible.

I love contrast, highlight, shadow, saturation +++. It's too fun. I'm addicted to photo editing. I used to go CRAZY with it but now It's just a little enchancing and I'm good to go. But yeah. I'm a fan.

I love it. I have no problem with it whatsoever, UNLESS it's being used to misrepresent something. A photo needs a subject to start with, and that is YOU. Without it, it has no relevance, and editing can bring out a truer version of you... or in mainstream media's case, the exact opposite. Either way, it's a great art medium to put forward whatever you want people to see.

I usually do color balancing and corrections for lighting nowadays, but my friends knew me all too well for being a photoshop dweeb. I've photoshopped the bf's photos a few times... he's put his hands on some friend's shoulders a few too many times in pictures while drinking [too much BROMANCE], and after getting bashed on for it, I've removed his guilty hands... only it backfires in his face because people have already seen the original pics, so it's even funnier he was caught trying to cover his tracks. =P

I've smoothed a few blemishes here and there, but people were able to do that WAY before photoshop. Back when things were still being captured w/ 35mm cameras and developing, I was able to use watercolors to paint over blemishes and smooth out complexions and fine lines with a soft focus filter on the lense. Photoshop just made it easier for everyone else to do it VS. a trained photographer.  =)

well it is your lucky day forever friend!!

^LOL! I was so going to do that too... but then I couldn't pick just ONE from the LOADS I've amassed over the years!  Hahaha...

I've done it a few times when I felt the photo's contrast was off or the picture was too blurry. And then sometimes just for the fun of it, I've done things like the famous Andy Warhol picture. ;)

But most of the time, I try to find some good lighting and keep it au naturale. My profile photo, for instance, I didn't touch at all. And that was from my laptop camera. I feel like there's nothing wrong with it but like everything, there's a line not to cross. If the picture before and the picture after looks like COMPLETELY different pictures, then maybe we need to lay off the editing. lol.

@ Alyssa- totally with you on the editing thing... it's fun to play with contrasts and stuff (or even fix a blemish or something) but if you're giving yourself virtual plastic surgery I think it's time to step away from the computer...

I know I alter my pics all the time and for colors. I don't do tutorials so I'm safe :). If showing off a product it should be original or as original as possible. Some people like it, some don't but if it's a nice pic, then it's nice.
