Personally I wouldn't do it, it's very damaging to your skin and depending on which skin type you have it can lead to skin disorders or cancer. For example, I have very fair skin and I normally don't tan well in the natural sun so for my skin type it's very dangerous for me to "fake tan". Buy some self tanning lotions. They work very fast and look so natural.

I agree with Shauna as well. I used to tan a lot in high school & also my first year of college. I didn't realize it then, but I looked terrible! I was overly tan, I almost looked like leather & I'm embarrassed I let myself get like that. I told myself that I would only go a few times, but it was so addictive & I constantly thought I was never tan enough. I now have some spots on my skin where they are not able to tan anymore, because I abused the tanning bed. Not that I'm saying this will happen to you, but I really strongly advise you not to do it. If you want a little tan, use a self tanner or get a spray tan (:

I agree with Shauna too I never tan I love my complexion and if I go to the beach I make sure to cover myself in sunblock! The sun is my my worst enemy! It can cause skin cancer, early signs of aging, and darkens acne scars.

And tanning beds are very bad as well they cause cancer! I would also say to just try a sunless tanning lotion like jergens or st. Tropez.

Naturally no! I go red :( have to fake it as can't bring myself to use one of those dreadful tanning beds. :)

Shauna is right. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is seeing significant increases in occurrence with young women. Doctors believe many of them can be linked to tanning beds. Also, there is no question that tanning drastically ages the skin. UV skin damages is not cute.

I find it easier to use fake tan lotions. But then again I have VERRY fair skin that is prone to skin cancer.
I'd say try lotion tan instead of the beds

Not to mention it makes skin rather leathery. *shudders*

I highly don't suggest it, but if you're going to tan, just use the sun. Apply tanning oil or coconut oil before you lay out! You'll be under the sun in half the time with oil than without it

If you do it once or twice I don't think it will do much harm.

It only takes one sunburn/UV overexposure to nearly double your risk of melanoma. Yes, "once or twice" can do harm. There is no excuse to uselessly expose yourself to UV rays when fake tanning products have come so far.
Take it from someone who has had skin cancer twice: don't risk it. It's not worth it.

I used to work at a tanning salon, and like a gal above, I always went and never felt tan enough. It got to the point where my skin wouldn't produce the deepest tan I once achieved. Now, believe it or not, St Tropez is my number one go-to sunless tanner and I get true color with it. I love how it seems to cover more skin flaws like splotchy areas where my skin looks uneven. I'm glad I broke that habit :)

The thing about only doing it "once or twice" is that it doesn't make you get a tan which means you have to keep going back for more sessions. You start to see a gradual colour difference within a couple weeks but you have to keep going back for more. In my opinion self tanning lotions work way faster and won't damage your skin.
