What Do You Consider to be 'Wearable'?

Personally, I think bright, obnoxious, colors are wearable. Every look I've ever posted, I've either worn out in public, worn to work, or it is something I'd have no trouble wearing out to go anywhere.
And I always get compliments on it! Sometimes people say 'I wish I could pull that off, you do it so well.", and personally, I think anyone can and could pull off color. There's no reason you can't! I always see tutorials on making smokey eyes 'wearable' or having a wearable, colorful look. What does that even mean?!
So for me, pretty much anything is wearable. Neutrals are rare for me, unless I'm running late for something xD
What's 'wearable' or not wearable in your opinion?

I agree with you that everything is wearable - I mean I wear everything - but there are certain limitations depending on where you're going. School definitely isn't the place to be wearing super dark or bright colors and some schools have rules against doing so. Some work places also have similar rules. So sometimes those 'wearable' looks are meant to be wearable on those kind of occasions, or at least that's the way I see it.

I completely agree with you Victoria! There isn't much that ISNT wearable in my opinion. But I live in the South, in a really small town, and sometimes I feel like the only person in this town who feels that way! I used to work at a big national chain restaurant, and our general manager was always getting after me for wearing "too much color" on my nails and eyes. I'm also getting ready to start nursing school, and the program has already laid down veryyy strict guidelines about what we can wear, so I imagine I will tone down some of my more colorful looks for school, at least at first. I think around here, it's just not something that people are used to, and we know how people hate on what's different. I do agree that it is silly, and kind of unfortunate. I mean, how is COLOR considered to be so inappropriate?! I think the powers-that-be who are setting these types of restrictions are not so concerned with the actual look, but how customers/teachers/etc are going to respond to it. Which is silly, old fashioned, and kind of closed-minded, in my opinion. But sometimes you gotta play their game, ya know?

It is extremely closed-minded! How can you respond badly to color?! Its everywhere, I don't see why it's so different when its on your eyes/in your makeup!
But I do understand that sometimes you just have to cooperate. How boring!

I think that pretty much everything is wearable, as long as it stays within the confines of your eyes. If you start doing things all over your face, that's taking things a little too far. I think that I have worn every single color to school, and I love it!

I believe that almost anything can be wearable. I, for example, like mostly neutral colors on myself (but still wear some pops of color now and then), but I love to see girls with dark lipsticks or bright eyeshadows. I thought my country was very conservative when it comes to statement makeup, but it seems it's like that in most parts of the world.
If someone feels confident and happy with green eyeshadow and pink cheeks, I say: Go for it! After all, it's your face, not someone else's.

I think most things are wearable. I don't think you should worry much about what other people think of your makeup anyway, as long as you like it, it makes you feel good, and you aren't hurting anyone :) I do think certain things are not appropriate for certain occasions, like huge false lashes and black or dark smokey eyes, for say, work as a secretary. But other than that sort of thing, I think most things are fine.

I'll wear ANYTHING!!! I mean, it's really just a matter of taste. I don't have a hard time wearing something bright or obnoxious. And I wear smoky eyes in the day time, no big deal. Most days I'll just swipe on a lid color and blend it out, but if I do happen to have the time, I'll do something more complex. And more often than not I get lots of compliments on it. :D I haven't posted all my interesting looks, though I should. My camera is just being extremely retarded as of late. :P But yeah, I don't have a problem with it. And I don't really care if other people do. >.<

I think pretty much any makeup is wearable, well, anything short of costume looking makeup. But that is just me.

Though I personally tend to wear either muted or natural looking makeup, but only because for day to day it is just easy and quick. But when I have time to put more thought into it, I will wear bright colors that, at least in my area, you don't see to often.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! A smokey eye is what I fall back on when I'm not feeling creative. Morning, Day, or Night! Whenever I do, say, a sunset eye, I get tons and tons of compliments on my makeup. I live in a relatively small town, and work as a store clerk, but I still love being known as the girl with gorgeous makeup!

i think anything is wearable as long as it makes you comfortable. my favorite type of makeup to wear is bold colors and i wear them everywhere. i started out wearing colorful shadows. whenever i wear neutral colors i feel naked. to me wearable is a very open term. sometimes it does drive me crazy though how on youtube when you search for wearable looks a bunch of neutral looks pop up.

I dislike the term "wearable" when it comes to a make up look, any look is wearable, it's just about having the confidence to go for something a little out there, when I really can't be bothered with make up I will do a smoky eye, but sometimes I will do as is on my current picture and have bright pink leopard print on my eyes- the amount of compliments I get from doing that is insane.
Although I do think that for an interview, depending what it is for, it might be best to tone it down and just add a pop of colour.

I love seeing colorful make-up and I have no issue with those who do. For me personally I wear it depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going. For church, I'm a deaconess so I keep a toned down look if I'm needed to oversee a funeral or special event where I'm going to be standing in front of the alter. School I let it loose. Fitness competitions I need color for my face to compete with the harsh stage lights so I don't disappear. Lately I've been loving super bright lips and I always receive positive comments whenever I wear it. And as far as eye looks.....the brighter the better.

I think wearable has to do with the person. I personally L-O-V-E the brightness of the yellow based pink MAC came out with for Viva Glam Nicki but the color against my skin if applied too opaquely is hard to wear to make it more wearable I add a gloss or apply it lightly. I think it's just about what works with your features and dependent on where you are going and what you are doing. :)

I love color! Especially in the winter or rainy days. I think of it as being a ray of color in a grey background, you know. I feel thou if you don't like it, don't knock the other person for having the confidence and creativity to do it.

I feel that everything is wearable. Just depends the time and place! I was scared to wear red lipstick so I tried different shades out until I found the one that was the best! I wear at night all the time! I feel its getting over fears and wearing everything!

I think that pretty much everything is wearable, provided that it's well executed. I do think that some things are not appropriate for certain occasions. Sometimes you just have to wear something that's more natural. :)

I can understand that in many situations colour may be restricted for good reason; for example, in culinary school, students really aren't allowed to wear make up at all, for fear it may get into the food. This could be the same for something like chemistry. Also, many schools require at the most minimal, nude toned nails and almost no make up to reinforce uniformity (an attempt at preventing bullying or discrimination, although this just seems like paper communism to me). In some situations it makes sense to only wear minimal make up.

But honestly, for going out, at a school that doesn't care, anywhere else, anything in wearable, if you can and want to do it! :)
