I have keratosis pilaris on my thighs and hip bones! Has anyone here ever had it? What can I do to help it go away? I've tried lotions and they help some but it keeps coming back. It's basically like dry scaly patches of skin, the follicles are inflamed. What helps?

Other than lotion I have no idea, I'm sorry. Amlactin is the lotion that works best for me. I shower at night and then put it on after. Sorry I couldn't help more!

The key is gentle exfoliation and lots of hydration. KP is caused by a disruption in your skin cell cycle. your skin cells are regenerating before your old ones slough off. you need to exfoliate to get rid of the top layer of dead skin and moisturize to recreate balance in your skin cell production. I used to have it on my arms really bad and it does come back during the summer if I don't stay on top of it.

Be sure to find a lotion that has alpha hydroxy in it, or else it won't go away.

Soap and glory thermo scrub and L'occatine 100% shea butter work for me. Makes my skin smooth and takes the redness out. x

I agree with Kenzie L. I have it too and it goes away if I keep up with exfoliating and moisturizing! :)

Hi I'm a cosmetologist! I've marked a few comments as helpful, on top of that I recommend using a chemical exfoliant like the neutrogena body wash. I use it on my arms, just rub it into your skin with your hands and let that sit for a while. sometimes using a loofa or a body scrubber can make it more inflamed and worse. then I use coconut oil to moisturize right after I get out of the shower.
If you shave that high too they could also be caused by a dirty razor, try cleaning it in alcohol before every use to wash away any gunk that might be hindering a smooth shave.

Aqua Mirabalis from Lush as an exfoliator and Gold Bond Ultimate Healing with Aloe as a moisturizer. Not too expensive and it's worked wonders for me!

Crush about 10 aspirin with a dab of water and rub into your skin. Also, you can do the same with olive oil and sugar. They both were recommended on the Doctors.
