Neutragena makes a good self tanner. It comes in lotion and a spray.

None of them! I've used all of them and they're all very streaky, orange, and smell very bad the next day! What I would recommend is & this is what I use is:
- salon bronze spray tanner $12.99 @ Sally's beauty supply (be careful of where you use this the after spray can be very messy- so it's best to use this in the tub... But I use this with the foam brush application technique, will explain below)
-foam brushes- you will need them in all different sizes. 1", 2", and two 3" brushes- the 3" brushes are best for bigger areas & faster application. These are 39 cents each at my local craft store.
- jergens 3 day glow in medium to dark, or coppertone gradual self tanner (I use both of these throughout the week to maintain my spray tan color- because I only use the salon bronze on Sunday after I deep exfoliate the crap out of my skin)
- daily exfoliating body scrub, like Dove gentle exfoliating, & you will need one with bigger beads for a deeper exfoliation once a week. This is a must if your self tanning, it's going to keep your color even & prevent it from being splotchy when it begins to fade.
All of that being said here's a video of how I apply my spray self tanner with a foam brush. I prefer to use a spray tanner bc I can just spray it into the brush- lotions are more messy because you have to be constantly washing your hands. Also the reason I use the salon bronze is because it has a color block/instant color in it meaning you can see where you are applying it so you can see streaks and if you miss a spot. & the best part, that this doesn't have a self tanner smell at all!! I love this tanner because the next day, my skin is very brown but doesn't even have a hint of a smell to it!!
Here's the link to the video: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=plpp&v=e8lwzn-__Xc
Also if you want an instant color, use Sally Hansen but hers are leg "makeup" not self tanners- meaning they can wash off or even transfer onto clothes or fabric I love using Sally Hansen too- just make sure if you do use it let it dry and spray your body down with a makeup setting spray (any will work cheapest one is best since its for your body) or you can use a light aerosol hairspray- works the same! Hard candys glow all the way instant bronzing lotion with the 24k gold flakes in it or whatever is also another favorite for an instant summer bronzed glow!! Hope this helped!! Xoxo

Spray tans are tricky. I've used St. Tropez self tanning mousse and I LOVE it. I found a tutorial on how to apply it, but the model they had was already dark so you couldn't even tell a difference. only problem area (s) I had were my hands and feet. so the second time around instead of using the mit, I used a make up brush.

Audrey- if your having trouble with self tanner around your hands and feet I would suggest you pumice your feet and exfoliate your hands lightly, then apply a plain white lotion to your hands and the bottom of your feet- this will act as a barrier to the self tanner, so apply it in between fingers/toes, on your nails, anywhere you don't want it to get tanner on. Also a trick you can do is, instead of using a lotion- use an aerosol deodorant which is a little faster to apply but you don't have as much control as using a lotion- although I think using the aerosol deodorant works much better as a barrier, not to mention- Dove has some amazing smelling products, but you can use any which one you want! Also if you're worried about your hands or feet turning orange you can use a gradual self tanner on your hands/feet to give you some color but it won't be too dark, I do that too sometimes. & instead of using a makeup brush, I suggest you should go watch the YouTube video I posted above and try using a foam brush instead- they're a lot easier to work the product around, (these come with some self tanners like the million dollar tan self tanner.) I hope this helps! xo.

Thanks Amanda :-) but it wasn't so much that my hands or feet turned orange, because I haven't had that issue, it was actually my knuckles that when I bent my fingers they were white and it made it obvious I was using a self tanner. so I switched to the make up brush (hence my second time around comment) and had no problems afterward. I feel that the mit wasn't allowing me to get into my knuckles is all. I never thought of a barrier to use prior to applying it to hands/feet, that was a brilliant suggestion. thank you!

Audrey, Oh I absolutely have the same problem! I've learned very quickly to open and close my hands when I go over my knuckles with my foam brush, because I completely agree it can be very noticeable the white parts, sometimes I feel like my palms and the bottom of my feet are over noticeably extremely white. That being said though, I've started using a gradual tanner over my hands and feet too because it won't leave any orange palms or the bottoms of my feet- just make them brown like the rest of my body; if that makes sense? Also I went thru my brief phase of tanning bed fake bake everyday, and I used to get the half-moon tan lines under my butt cheeks haha!, and on my chest from laying down, or in between my fingers if I didn't hold them open...and those god awful horrible raccoon eyes I've seen on so many girls from wearing the tanning goggles! So I mean if you kind of think about it, even you can get those lines from being out in the sun? So I guess it goes both ways you know! I am really curious though to know what makeup brush you use? Is it a brush or a sponge? And does it ever leave you streaky from the bristles, or maybe not if you go in circles? I just haven't experimented with using a makeup brush, I would think that it would be a really long process for your whole body because it's so small? But I'm deff open to some advice, and want to know your technique and what products you use?!! xoxo.
