My scalp has been absolutely horrible the past couple months. it's itchy and red and I have so much dandruff. I haven't changed any of my hair products. I've added tea tree oil to my shampoo but I haven't noticed a difference. my doctor has given me a cream which has been helping with the redness and itchiness but the dandruff won't go away. I've tried aloe vera and that hasn't helped. what can I do?

Are you allergic to anything? I have a lot of allergies and it can make my scalp itch so horribly!!

Adding tea tree isn't the same as using a product formulated to work with tea tree. Paul Mitchell has a tea tree scalp treatment (differs from shampoo) that is effective and stops flaking and itching. Sally carries it under their "Generic Line". It comes in a tube. I use a green tea rinse as green tea naturally has antifungal and antibacterial properties while possessing the ability to reduce inflammation/irritation. I put 2 teabags in a large cup of boiling water and let steep until cool. Then, I transfer it to a squeeze bottle. After shampooing...I apply the rinse to my head and massage...leaving it sit for a good 10 minutes or so on my scalp. Then rinse and be sure to not apply conditioner to my scalp. Instead, only to the hair shaft and ends. Hope that helps.

I'm allergic to practically all hair products lol. the only line my skin can use is Aveeno. I've been usie it for a long time and never had problems with it. I have extremely sensitive skin and have been going to doctors/dermatologists/allergists for over 7 years and still haven't been able to figure out exactly what I react to. I like your idea Rozberry about the green tea rinse

Has your dermatologist given you any liquids to put on your scalp? I have psoriasis on my scalp and I've been using dermovate and diprosalic 2-3 times a week plus I use a scalp moisturiser/mask from dead sea magic (I think that's the brand, I got it in my local heath shop) using all of those has really helped plus trying to destress helps too!

No they just give me a steroid cream to use twice a day.

If none of the other suggestions works maybe ask your dermatologist about trying something else... I'm not sure if those liquid steroids I mentioned are available in your country but worth asking about. Hopefully you see some relief soon.

Yes, definitely try homemade/natural hair masks to help condition your scalp. A lot of people love coconut oil, but that does agree with my hair, so I use warm olive oil instead. It really helps with my dry spots (I also have a difficult scalp), and bonus it makes your hair incredibly shiny.

Also, try washing your hair in cool water instead of hot or warm. This applies to the skin all over your body too. Hot/warm water dries your skin out terribly (probably strips natural oils more than cool water), and I speak from experience that this definitely helps my itchy scalp and skin issues.

Another idea (I haven't tried it, but I just thought of it), maybe try using just a cleansing conditioner with a mild formula instead of shampoo all the time?

Good luck! I really hope you find relief soon!
