Philosophy has fragrance which can irritate sensitive skin.
They both have Hyaluronic Acid which helps retain water on the skins surface but philosophy doesn't have the ceramides which helps repair the skins natural barrier so in turn helps to actually repair dry/damaged skin rather than just moisturizing

I love Philsophy, but Hope burned my skin. It was so irritated that I had to see my derm and get a script for the reaction.
That said, I love their washes and C powder. I love love love CeraVe and the line has expanded from their Ceramide and Peptide packed lighter PM moisturizer to much richer, heavier creams intended for evening use. I think there is a variation of CeraVe for just about anything that needs moisturizing. I combine my moisturizers with natural oils for maximum benefit.

I have tried a few of the philosophy moisterizers that my mom got for free. I have normal skin and it completely burned /irritated my skin and made it feel extremely oily.
Then when it come to cerave, Rozberry had suggested it to me about a year ago. I'm still in love. The am and pm moisterizers are absolutely amazing and I recommend it to everyone. You wake up with perfect skin in the morning. I also use the cleanser which are the bomb too

I have combo, acne prone skin that's more on the sensitive side.
I have tried their Hope moisturizer before and it made my skin feel nice at first but later ended up making me break out. And the smell of it isn't pleasant. The night Cream scent is horrible, to the point my husband didn't want to kiss me.
Expensive products do not always mean they are better quality.

I like CeraVe products. I have their moisturizing lotion that I like to use for days I want to keep things simple or when my skin is acting up. I have their moisturizing cream for when my skin is on the dryer side or have any dry patches. It is thicker but it hasn't clogged my pores or cause acne.
I also have their eye cream, it's nothing special but it's a good basic eye cream.
Most recent CeraVe buy I have been liking is their skin renewing cream serum. It has improved the texture of my skin fairly quick.

Lara, I'm so glad it worked out for you. Hurray!

It should be noted that renewed hope uses AHA's for exfoliation, rather than bha's...so skin meeds/type may help
Keep in mind you need a broad spectrum sunscreen.

I liked the formulas of Philosophy better, but can't stand their fragrances. They seem to use a lot of lavender, which I don't like. I don't use either.

I prefer CeraVe. My skin reacted horribly to the Philosophy hope in a jar. The CeraVe also soaks into my skin better and keeps it more moisturized.
