Sun’s Out, Buns Up: Vacation Hairstyles for Curly Hair

1

There are three types of curly-haired vacationers: 1) the blow-out preserver, who never lets their hair touch water, 2) the curl coverer, who keeps their ringlets out of sight with anything from hats to head wraps, and 3) the curl embracer, whose natural hair is the frizz-free envy of every vacationer.

Obsessing over frizz management can seriously put a damper on your getaway. This summer, be a curl embracer who confidently rocks their coils with a few easy updos that keep your ringlets managed but not over-worked. Here are three easy bun hairstyles that everyone in the curl community can wear — head turning twists that stay soft, defined, and fuzz-free!

Double the bun, double the fun

Products : Oribe Styling Butter Curl Enhancing Crème and Oribe Curl Gelée.

  1. Dampen your hair and apply Oribe’s Curl Enhancing Crème. Comb the buttery formula through your strands and scrunch upwards for curls that are soft and frizz free.
  2. Part your hair down the middle and section off a small handful of hair on either side of your part, leaving the remainder of your hair down.
  3. Gather each handful of hair into a small bun.
  4. Apply Oribe’s Curl Gelée throughout the rest of your hair, and twist the tendrils that need extra shine and definition.
  5. Diffuse or air dry for defined hair (without the crunch!) that’s ready for the day’s adventures!

Messy Bun with a twist

Products : Oribe Priming Lotion Leave-In Conditioning Detangler and Oribe Styling Butter Curl Enhancing Crème

  1. Dampen your strands and then comb Oribe’s Leave-In Conditioning Detangler through your hair to keep curls moisturized and tangle-free.
  2. Follow with Oribe’s Curl Enhancing Crème and comb through your hair, then scrunch curls upward to define your natural pattern.
  3. Gather your hair into a high ponytail and secure with a hairband. Be sure to leave out tendrils to frame your face.
  4. With bobby pins, begin loosely pinning curly strands around your elastic to create a voluminous bun.
  5. It doesn’t have to be perfect! In fact, make sure to leave ringlets out of your bun. Twist these strands with a little more curl enhancing crème to create a cute style for the pool or beach!

When buns collide

Products : Oribe Styling Butter Curl Enhancing Crème and Oribe Curl Gelée.

  1. This bun look takes the two previous styles and puts them together. After dampening hair, apply Oribe’s Curl Enhancing Crème and comb through.
  2. Section your hair to create a half up, half down ponytail and secure with a hairband. Be sure to leave out tendrils to frame your face.
  3. With bobby pins, begin pinning curls around your elastic to create a fluffy bun, leaving the remainder of your hair down.
  4. Apply Oribe’s Curl Gelée throughout the rest of your hair, twisting tendrils and scrunching upward.
  5. Apply a pea-sized amount of gelée to the curls around your face to add definition for bombshell hair that’s perfect for a night out!
