A love/hate product, but I hated it :/

I remember witnessed the “mineral makeup“ revolution of the beauty industry. And it started with brands like Jane Iredale and Bare Escentuals. The idea of makeup that was good for you was a marketing masterpiece and lots of people buy into it. This product just definitely did not work for my skin.

I have sensitive combination skin, the Bare Escentuals foundation clogged my pores like no other, caked and flaked on my skin, and oxidized into a fun little orange mess. Bare Escentuals contains Bismuth Oxide, a mineral which a certain percent of the population is allergic too. I am part of that unfortunate statistic. My skin broke out badly. I really wanted to love this product, because the Fairly Light shade was, at first, a great skin match).

I know people that are absolutely obsessed with this product, so your experience will definitely vary. I recommend getting a small sample to try out. It could be amazing, or it could be bad. I can't say which. My experience with the mineral foundation sucked, but it's not to say that it could be your next holy grail foundation!

Smells amazing, feels amazing.

Mmmmm how could you sniff this and not fall in love? Korres Guava Body Butter is a lovely whipped body cream that smells divine. I have pretty dry skin, especially on my arms, elbows, and knees, and love using this product to replenish my skin's moisture. It sinks into the skin and doesn't feel greasy at all. For $29, you get about 8 oz of product, which, for body lotion....isn't a huge amount. Ok, let's not kid ourselves, it's a very expensive product. However, I just keep coming back to it after trying other lotions. The packaging is a really lovely (and non wasteful of product) tube with beautiful graphics and typography (my inner design nerd is coming out). At least try this to understand why I love it so much :)

Smells heavenly, great product

First off, this product smells divine, truly! The combination of thyme and honey is very subtle but really calming at night. The product is incredibly moisturizing, sometimes too moisturizing for my Sensitive Combination Skin. I would recommend this for normal-dry skin just like the description says (I just had to try it because of the scent!) The texture is fluffy and whipped, and applies like a dream on the skin. At first, it feels slightly tacky on the skin, but then soaks in well. I love Korres' whole beauty philosophy, and love supporting a company that uses natural and homeopathic remedies for their product formulations. Definitely recommend this for dry skin textures!

Great packaging, pretty good product

I am a 20 something woman who spends way too much time wasting my life on the computer and watching the TV. Ipso facto, my sleep deprivation and overall tiredness increases. These things just happen.

I was looking for a “natural” eye cream that would help my dark circles and brighten my undereye area. Since I'm young, I'm not really concerned with fine lines, but if the product helps them, why not?

I was first attracted to this product because of its packaging. I love the minimalist aesthetic of the blue and white, and especially love the efficient design of the package itself—it doesn't waste product!. The skinny tube opening inside makes squeezing out just a little bit easy! Bravo Korres for a job well done on this design.

I squeezed out less than a pea sized amount for both eyes, and dabbed around my eye socket. I don't notice and immediate visible changes, but my eye area feels softer and more relaxed. I've been using this product for a few weeks and I'm not really seeing any dramatic changes. So far, I'll keep using this because it's a solid product, but I'll always one eye on the TV, and one eye out for that miracle worker :)

Ok cleanser, leaves skin a little dry.

Usually I love all Korres products. This one was a bit of a miss for me. On my sensitive-combination skin, it dried out my face a little bit every time I washed it (perhaps it's because my skin is so used to cleansing oil that it doesn't remember what lathering feels like.) All of the ingredients looks great though, I probably would recommend it for slightly oilier skin textures (my sister has normal-oily skin and loves it). On a sidenote, I'd like to comment on the packaging. I HATE tall bottles like these because it makes the user work way too hard to access product towards the bottom, especially when theres no pump, just a hole at the top. This is why squeeze tubes or even tubs are excellent alternatives.

Really nice texture, ambivalent about pot packaging

I was looking for a nice night cream to moisturize my 20 something sensitive and combination skin. Wild Rose is a great option! Korres has really wonderful skincare formulations and this one is no exception. It smells like fresh roses and doesn't leave my skin feeling sticky. I'm not so sure how effective the SPF 6 is considering that I wear it at night, and SPF 6 is paltry compared to my daily SPF 50 (stay of the sun, kids!) Not sure about its claims on healing brown spots; I didn't notice a change over a few weeks. However, my skin was continually soft and moisturized, sometimes too moisturized! Not so sure I love sticking my fingers in the screw top packaging, but it's not annoying me enough to deter a purchase.

I think I want to try other Korres moisturizers before I come back to this, but definitely don't discount getting a sample of this if you're looking for a light, non irritating night moisturizer to feed your skin :)

Beautifully textured bronzer

My sister and I are completely skintone opposite. She got the golden olive mediterranean skin, while I inherited the pallor of Eastern Europe. I already found a light bronzer that works for me (Fresh Here Comes the Sun Palette), now it was her turn.

When I was shopping in Sephora for a bronzer for my sister, I rememberd that she loves Korres skincare because of its mediterranean roots and high quality. I also remembered that they now had a makeup line. I prayed that they had a bronzer and was happy to come across the Monoi Oil Bronzer. It chock full of good for you ingredients, and gave .39 oz of product, enough to last her a lifetime. I chose to get 2 Sunglow Warm for her medium golden/olive undertoned skin. It turned out to be a perfect match! When I dusted it under her cheekbones, around the bridge of her nose, on her temples, and underneath her jawline, she was sculpted and sunkissed. The bronzer doesn't oxidize, the shimmer content is *just* right (it gives a nice amount of glow but doesn't overkill), it's a nice contour shade for her. The product also lasts really well without touchup. Overall, I think medium-dark skintones should definitely check this bronzer out.

Soft muted gray, ok staying power

I was looking for a rich black pencil liner that I could use for smudgey smoky eye looks. MAC Smolder Eye Kohl always smudged on me so I branched out into new brand territory! Since I tried so many of Korres' skincare and really liked it, I wanted to test drive their new makeup line. I first started with the eyeliners!

Gray 6 is a quiet medium matte gray. It's great for smudging on the lower lash line, or applied and blended on the eyelid with a very pale shimmery silver or white on the brow bone (try MAC eye shadow Electra, MAC Vapour eye shadow, or MAC Frost Pigment). The texture is buttery and fabulous, although it needs to be sharpened often (like any pencil liner— I'm so used to liquid and gel liners that I forget that this is normal :D) It's not a WOW color, but it's a lovely one to have in your collection if you prefer using pencils and have complementary coloring. It lasts longer than Black 1 (for some reason all the other Korres pencils beside black last longer), so that's a plus if you're looking for longevity! It's definitely a recommended one.

Pretty color, ok lasting power

Olive Green 5 is a really lovely medium olive with strong yellow undertones. It's similar to MAC Rosemary and Thyme Eye Kohl, minus the gold glimmers. The texture is the softest of eyeliners I've ever felt, feels like velvet! It's meant for thickly lined applications of color, or in this particular color's case, for eye shadow as well. For some reason, it lasts better throughout the day than Black 1, which is why I'm giving it a slightly higher rating. So if you're looking for a muted olive liner with amazing ingredients, Korres Olive Green 5 is for you!

Nice texture, slightly smudges

Since I tried so many of Korres' skincare and really liked it, I wanted to test drive their new makeup line. I first started with the eyeliners!

This Korres Liner in Black 1 is a pure and intense black. It glides on like dream and doesn't skip on my lids at all. Like any other kohl eyeliner, it applies in a thick line so don't expect to do and fine liner details with this. It's meant for thick applications of liner or for intentional smudging. I applied this on my upper lashline and smudged up. I also applied some in my lower waterline for a dramatic look. It didn't irritate my eyes (in fact, I'm really happy with the “good-for-you” ingredients.). The product lasted all day on my TOP lashline, but smudged on the bottom pretty badly. Perhaps it's just too creamy of a formulation for my eyelids. Texturally, it's a great liner and give a really intense color, but I hate touching up throughout the day so it's a no go for me.
