I think going in there with an open mind is your best option. Rather than make a request for a product, share your concerns and issues..allowing them to best access the situation and what may work for you.
When placed on antibiotics...the dose is high initially, but is tapered down to a minimal dose and often completely discontinued. There are some bacteria's within the body that occur naturally. These can cause serious skin issues. Some bacterias respond to antibiotics and over time..its production is reduced..then can stop completely. Folliculitis is a prime example of this...it can bring about painful, deep skin infections that appear like pimples and leave scarring. Antibiotics are highly effective in certain individuals and are often paired with creams.
If you are placed on retinoids or given antibiotics, SPF of at least 30 is an absolute necessity. You'll want to be sure to hydrate and set a routine that you follow diligently. Don't get discouraged or be afraid to let the derm know of any complications you experience. Communication and regular visits will keep you both on top of things.

Megan, I'd get a new derm. Sounds like shoddy care to me. :(

I went through a couple of crackpot derms in my time. The woman I have now is a dream! She has changed my life.

Are you breaking out in spots..or large sections? How old are your scars? Green Tea is great for inflammation BTW. I boil and cool it for a rinse, plus I drink it. It is very soothing, naturally antibacterial and antiinflammatory.

Clindamycin Phosphate smells? I was on it fir 3 months, did help with my acne then and mine didn't smell of anything, I had Clincin gel prescribed to me.

And I agree with Rozberry, you need to tell your doctor your entire skin history and please get a licensed derm, it makes a HUGE difference! You must tell him/her about how your skin used to be clear and then the oil cleansing method you tried and its impact. You might not need the same meds as hormonal teens suffering from acne since yours may not be hormonal, so please do not jump to Accutane or Retin A. Make sure you carry all the products you use on your face, so your doctor could see all the ingredients. My best friend used body lotion on her face since the past 5 years and was breaking out, she did everything, switched her diet, cut dairy, was on doxicyclin and whatnot, until two months ago I noticed she was putting the body lotion on her face, I took all her products to the derm, she was reluctant, I literally dragged her to the clinic and the doc gave her blood exams and whatnot to see hormone levels. Turned out, her body lotion and face cleanser were breaking her out. She got a new skin routine from the derm and skin gotten soooo much better in less than 14 days.

They make varieties that are mixed with fruit to drink..lol I'd use regular for the rinse. I boil a cup of water with 2 tea bags and let it steep for hours. Then..I splash away..sopping up the extra with a thin cotton washcloth and let it sit on any irritated areas. Greek Yogurt is also soothing for redness. I wish you could see a derm. Good luck tomorrow!

Yes Clindamycin phosphate helped with my acne, but mine wasn't really bad by that time so I guess it doesn't do much for persistent acne like Jacqlyn said. Although you really need a good sunscreen with acne medication, I use Coppertone sensitive faces sunscreen. And Clindamycin Phosphate is a gel and It can be worn under make up easily, it dries up entirely clear. But I must insist, if you don't give your skin time to be treated by a certain acne treatment, you're only increasing problems for yourself. You need to give it 1 month at least, thats what my derm said. Because if you don't give it time to work, the derm would keep prescribing higher medication which your skin might not have needed, also, higher acne medication has side effects too. It is verrrrry verrrrry important to be patient with acne medication, I can never stress that enough.

You're welcome doll! Good luck with the visit tomorrow, I really hope you find your fit in terms of both the doc and the meds. :)

I know how you feel. I've been suffering with acne myself. Accutane is the pill that gets rid of acne for good. For people with severe acne, like myself, 10% acne returns and comes back.. and that is me. However it doesn't come back very severe. If you got questions, I have an acne related account on instagram @myaccutaneexperience

Have you tried the pill? My doctor switched mine to one that clears up skin, my sister was one the same one when she was my age too (but she had bad acne)

Most regular doctors don't know as much as you think lol they're aren't specialists. You'd be better off seeing a dermatologist.
My doctor told me to eat 800 calories a day and exercise. 😑 that's a horribly restricted calorie intake for an adult who's not being monitored daily and isn't extremely obese.

That will always cross their mind, my mom didn't want me on it for ages but my sisters gave out to her for me and I went on it for irregular periods (and for contraceptive but shhh haha)
