My hair is armpit length and I have been growing it out from a bob, don't hate me ladies but I hadn't had my haircut for a year last time I went and I had some serious split ends, its now been 6 weeks since I have had it cut last and I don't think I need to have it cut again as I'm just going to chop off what's grown as my hair grows really slowly but should I cut it anyway? Will it help it grow?

I believe it's every 8 weeks. Some people do every 6 months

I only trim my hair once I notice split ends. Otherwise, it's unnecessary.
