Hi, Mariah! Welcome to the wonderful world of beauty! As you may have noticed, it's a pretty fun place.

There's any awful lot to learn, if you're just starting out, it here are my top three beginner tips:

1. Get serious about taking care of your skin. If you don't have a regular, daily skincare routine yet, start one! When skin is healthy and looks good on its own, you won't need to apply as much makeup (which means your products will last longer) and what you do apply will go on more smoothly and look better, too. Besides, beginning to take care of your skin now means that you won't have to work so hard to repair damage later (pigmentation, scarring, wrinkles, etc).

2. Know your skin type (dry, oily, normal, sensitive, combination, etc) and determine your skin tone/undertone. These pieces of knowledge will help you to best determine which products are more likely to work well for you and look best on you. That saves you a lot of hassle and money. Nothing's worse than wasting money on stuff that doesn't work.

3. Buy a set of makeup brushes. They don't have to be super fancy or expensive. You can get a basic set at the drugstore for around $20 these days. Using actual brushes to apply makeup instead of the little foam applicators that come withe some products is like trading the huge, chubby markers you used in kindergarten for finely sharpened colored pencils. With practice, you will be able to develop a much greater degree of control over your application and achieve more subtle and complex techniques.

Hi mariah welcome to beautylish your going to like it here all your beauty question will be answered, I'd suggest reading the rules, this way your thread will not be taken down 😊

As far as makeup goes I'd suggest trying out gel liners they are easy to work with, knowing if your cool tone warm toned or neutral an if your skin is oily or dry or combo is key to finding the right perfection, there is a big difference between high end makeup and low end makeup but for right now I'd suggest starting out small, I reacently bought the loreal butterfly mascara and really liked it maybe try checking it out 😊, as far as you tube goes, do your research before going out and buying the products they are saying or doing the makeup they are doing there is a lot of missleading information we have 2 very talented ladies here in beautylish jaqueline and alma these ladies are profecional makeup artist with years of experience if your in doubt about anything you can always go to them, they are also moderators so if you have any problem with anyone or just having a problem with the site you can always go to them for help I hoped this helped on your makeup journy, there's no such thing as a bad question we are all here o learn and help eachother out 😊

Hi Maria! Elizabeth is right about the skin care, it's very important to cleanse and moisturizer. you don't have to scrub or commit chemical warfare, just a gentle cleanser.

Inexpensive drugstore brands are great for playing and experimenting. You might want to start w/ a more natural look at first. And trust me, a lot can go into a natural look.

Makeup is very fun to play with! I hope you have as much fun with it as I do!
