Hi everyone :)

I'm new to this site and I love it here already!
So I have a confession..I'm 23 and never wore make up besides eyeliner and lipstick or had a skincare routine! Overall I am happy with my natural look however I want to enter the world of make up!

Where do I start?
Skincare routine or make up basics?

Skin type:
Combined

Problem area
Eyes:
Minor puffy eyelids and dark circles

Thanks in advance!

It's never too late to start on your makeup or skincare! It's always best to start with a skincare routine so that even when you get older your skin will still look fresh and fight the effects of aging. To determine the right kind of skincare you want to cover the basics such as 1. Cleanser 2. Toner 3 Moisturizer. You may then want to consider other products such as eye creams, night creams, etc. You also need to know your skin type. Is your skin sensitive or not? Do you get acne? You should also consider what you want your skincare to do for you. Are you looking specifically for anti-aging? acne help? reduce redness? etc. A couple of my favourite skincare lines are Simple Skincare products, they're cheap and extremely gentle on the face. I use their gel cleanser, gentle toner, and hydrating light moisturizer. For a bit higher end I also love Avene. Their gel cleanser and moisturizer are amazing but their products can get pricey.

As for makeup, for makeup techniques I highly recommend just watching a lot of youtube videos. You don't need to go crazy and buy a lot of makeup at first, just buy what you need and ask people here on Beautylish for specific brand recommendations for different kinds of makeup. I hope I've been somewhat helpful!!

Also, welcome to Beautylish (:

@Shauna what does toner do? and do you use daily?

A toner removes excess makeup and dirt from your face. It's very important to use a toner because after you wash/cleanse your face, your skins ph balance is thrown off. By using a toner it restores your skins natural ph balance to it's normal level. It can also slightly reduce the appearance of pores and reduces redness on the skin. I prefer to use an alcohol free toner because it's gentle on your skin. Also, if you have oily skin a toner can help reduce the oil on your face over time. If you want something gentle I recommend using witch hazel (found at health food stores) or Simple Skincare Gentle Toner which contains a small amount of witch hazel and is alcohol free. And yes you should use it daily (:

I would start with skincare just because great skin will cause you to spend less on makeup plus that will help you a lot in the long run.

definitely get an eye cream as that is the first to show signs of aging. You can get one thats specifically for brightening to help with the dark circles. You'll also want a moisturizer and cleanser specifically for your skin type.

You can always do a little of both! A lot of foundations now a days have skincare benefits so you can get the best of both worlds! What's your budget like?

Skincare. It's your canvas and skin health is so important.
SPF
Drink lots of water
Toner - Mario Badescu has a seaweed one I love
Cleanse - CeraVe or Philosophy Purity
Exfoliate once a week
Moisturize
Be gentle..especially around the eyes and only use cotton

Make up - Start small. Maybe a BB cream, mascara, little liner, natural shadow and some lip stain or balm sticks. Revlon's line is gorgeous and has sheer shine to matte power puckers. A light blush is also great for summer. NYX is an affordable line since you're experimenting as is Drew Barrymore's Flower Cosmetics. (sold at Walmart)

Thank you everyone you've all helped me lots!
I have watched several YouTube videos and I am pumped!
My heart told me to start with homemade natural ingredients as I have a very tight budget!

I do not have sensitive skin thankfully :)

Appreciate all your help!
Lots of love <3

P:S I have started to use lemon with yogurt and without as a mask during night. Still working on morning routine! I'm thinking of trying out tomatoes and lemon mask for dark circles.
