Dying my hair black?

I also have dark brown hair and used to dye my hair black. You're hair will turn straight up black, no problem. Its much easier to dye darker than to go lighter. I used box color to go black, and it does fads, but it took mine a REALLY long time. If you're going to want to go back to a really light color, you'd most likely have to bleach it. If you're not ready for that commitment, use a dark brown hair dye and leave it on longer, and it'll turn out a blackish color, but it fades much more easily back into brown. I think black is pretty easy to do at home but if you're uncomfortable you could always go get it done! :)

2. You would have to remove the color first with a color remover (like color oops or l'oreal colorzap) then dye it the color you want (which may require bleaching if you want to go light brown or blonde)
3. Black is pretty easy. Since your hair is dark already you don't need a filler or anything. If you don't want a more permanent color just do a semi permanent. No developer, just dye that will coat the hair shaft and rinse out eventually.

I use garnier nutrisse in black licorice. I find it to be the best out of what I have used. Makes my hair look so beautifully black and silky.

I love the revlon box color it doesn't smell like ammonia and it literally makes your hair feel and smell better than before you dyed it and it has you've protection and doesn't fade as quick and I used black and they also make a blue black which is also really nice and its one of tje cheaper box dyes so its really good for the price

If it felt like it actually burned your scalp and was red or itchy in any way you may have been allergic to something in the dye. I'd stay away from it and branch out to a different brand. For me their are actually quite a few hair color brands that I am allergic to so I try to look for natural ones that I don't have a reaction to.

Have you tried Whole Foods if you have one? I don't know if all Whole foods carry it but mine is huge so they have a couple isles just for natural beauty and health care products. And if you do find a drug store brand one that you don't have a reaction to stick with it! I always test new products on my arm in the inner crease of my elbow just a dime size amont to see if I'm allergic to it or not. My dermatologist told me this trick because I have quite a few allergies to just about everything.

I have a sallys 5 mins away from my house that sucks but I don't have an ulta or sephora close by its in a different county but only 20 mins away by car but I don't have a car lol so I can only walk to sallys lol but I have a sephora warehouse 10 mins down the road from me my county doesn't make sense either lol.

Yes. I went from naturally blonde hair to black. It's a possible to get out, but it's a very tedious process. You'll have to strip, bleach, then dye it.

I use Revlon box dye. It's always gotten the job done for me.

@Jacqyln, I'm not a fan of box dye (my mom is a hairstylist--where I get most of my knowledge from.) I love the Clairol professional semi permanent dyes. My hair was always shiny and inky black with that. It's just in a little bottle, you don't need any developer or anything.

Or if you are testing hair die test it behind the back of your ear so its not as noticeable

Thats good its always better safe then sorry I'm sorry that I'm talking a lot but I have a funny story about a hairstylist who doesn't deserve her license well I went with my sister in law and I went first we were getting the same haircut well she did mine exactly how I wanted and when it came to my sister in law the lady had other people waiting so she did her hair really quickly and it turned out to be an exact mullet lol my sil was horrified and the stylist pinned her hair back to hide it and the whole day my sil was so mad at me same with her mom lol I just wanted to share to make you laugh :)

Since everybody has answered everything else, I've been dyeing my hair black for 4 years and the best dye I've used is Garnier Olia, most black dyes face to dark brown after a few washes. The Olia dye stays black and never fades - it also looks super glossy and hasn't damaged my hair :)

2. I wouldn't bleach but maybe lighten. Or strip your hair.
3. I love "gosh" hair dye aswell as LoReal hair dye or else just walk in to Sally's & do the developer and what not :)

If you're looking for something more natural, henna hair dye may be an option. "Black" Henna isn't really henna (it has other things added to it to make it black) but you can probably find one with other natural ingredients (no chemicals.) Test it on your skin though so you make sure you don't have a reaction.
