Hey girls!
So, I was walking around today with a blush on in which the color was "deep throat..." Yea... And someone asked me what the color was. I found myself having to write it down because I was in a more professional setting and saying something perverse like that would get me in a lot of trouble. So, what do you girls think of these makeup names? Are you ok with products being named things like "orgasm" "pirouette my whistle" "perversion" etc? I was wondering if maybe anyone else was having the same problem I am or was also being made uncomfortable.

Yes, those are all names of three products that I own...

I really don't like it. Especially with the younger crowd, it's just awkward. At least for me, I don't like watching YouTube videos and they have to say, better than sex mascara. It just makes me uncomfortable, and I mean it's not like I can do anything about it. However, I really would prefer not having to ask my mom for makeup that has those names haha

I personally don't find anything wrong with the names. Yes, they are meant to be sexual but if you talk about them without the sexual meaning, then I think it's fine.

No. Love the colors, do not appreciate the names. When I open a makeupline my names too will be ridiculous-in the most non flattering or glamorous way.
Ex) Chafing - a soft red blush with no shimmer
Razor burn, hopscotch, cramps, bloat, handstand, free samples..
Yeah. I probably won't open a makeup line.

Same thing with the awkward level with other people! I asked for the blush "deep throat" for Christmas (I have it now obviously) and I always write out a small list to send to my grandmother... She didn't understand it was makeup *facepalm* it just doesn't need to be done and I think it's awkward and sometimes the more graphic names such as the blush I got for Christmas are actually disgusting.

XD you are the prime example of a person who SHOULD be opening a makeup line!

Yeah. it's a little messed up. I don't like it. but it doesn't affect me either way.

I don't mind, its just a name, what your putting on your face is the product not the name so no one would never know if they don't ask.

That's so embarrassing, oh my goodness!! Haha yeah, I would just prefer my makeup to be called caramel, firetruck red, etc.. not deep throat llmaoo.

Kendra I understand that being in a professional setting could make things tricky. However, I wouldn't want someone to find a piece of paper that said "deep throat" either. 😂 I think it's about how you handle it. "Oh, it actually has a distasteful name...(insert name here) or "shall I continue?"
I know it can makes things awkward, but the names are scandalous. That's why they're named that. To reflect the product and get people talking.
Do you think it's a coincident Orgasm is Nars best selling blush? I think not.
But of course, I would avoid asking relatives for makeup with those names lol. I'd save those for my own purchases.

Ahahaha they make me laugh tbh it's hilarious because orgasm and deep throat are the most popular blushes of NARS it seems like, sex sellsssssss. they knew what they were doing lol. no harm, no foul. just a name of a product!

Omigod... I hope she didn't randomly drop that paper... Poor cleaning crew I'm so sorry. That's a good idea on how to handle the situation!
And I know that's why the products sell I just don't understand why everything in this culture has to scandalous and sexual...

Just an added thought:
If Nars slapped the name "Peachy" onto "Orgasm" would it sell even nearly as much as the original name? Absolutely not. It all comes down to very smart marketing techniques. Scandalous names=higher sales. Why? Because they're easy to remember. You'll always know what blush or mascara you're wearing if it's scandalous.

Oh I agree Kendra! It's quite unfortunate that that is what sells. 😂 but that's the society we live in! So instead of fighting it, try to make money off of it. 😉

It's been that way for ever and I don't think it's ever going to change unfortunately at least not in the near future. esp with all these so called feminists walking around naked without doing anything to actually fight for our rights hahaha.

Companies like that usually are catering to a certain crowd. Higher end brands like Nars, make their products usually for 20+ people. People with jobs obviously are majority of our clientele. The teens or preteens who get their hands on it is probably a small percentage of their buyers. I don't know of that many 12 year olds that buy $30 blush 😝 or their parents. Nars isn't really made for that demographic. They have free reign to name their product whatever they wish. Don't buy it, if it offends you.

But I don't think a drugstore brand could get away with that. Since the everyday girl and woman is their target audience

I don't like it. In fact, I am sick of. I absolutely despise the over sexed society we live in. Sure sex is natural, sex is great but I don't like that sex *sells* everything. And when I say everything, I earn everything. Back when I use to watch tv, food commercials would be sexually suggestive. Like, really? Of course the audience only encourages it by purchasing it, no offense to those who do, but sex use to be a mysterious thing and now it's just in our faces constantly, put it back behind closed doors, please. But of course people look at me like I have three friggin heads when I say that.

All of you saying "if it offends you don't buy it" are highly missing my point. I'm saying that it's unfortunate that everything has to be so specialized and that they names really are inappropriate. No, that don't necessarily offend me but I do think that it's a bit ridiculous.

Bryanna I agree with you! I think we have just become a culture that is too hyped up and focused on sex. Don't get me wrong; it's natural and a beautiful thing for two people who love each other. But I don't want is gives in my face everytime I buy makeup, clothes, food, cars, perfume etc. I agree that literally sex sells everything and in really don think it's right.

@ Harlyn T.
Nothing wrong with being a sexual person; it's natural and part of life! More power to you! But it's nice to hear that even with being a sexual person you understand the need to keep it more in your personal life instead of broadcasting it to everyone through everything in life... Like makeup...

Well these days, sex doesn't seem to be just between two people in love... I don't care if you love sex so much, you wanna have a orgy every weekend, why must we name products after sex or have sexually suggestive commercials!? It is disgusting, honestly and the older I get, the more I don't like it. It just annoys me.
