Hey everyone! I'm sorry if this is in the wrong category but I need some data. I'm writing an essay on the male-female dynamics on YT. Why do females get more sponsorship and how is the trans community affected as well. So my question for you all is this- do you watch male MUAs on YT and why? Do you feel they are overshadowed by women? I'd appreciate any input you may have! Thanks so much!

I don't have a favorite but I'll answer your other question. I watch male maus because I enjoy their makeup tutorials, the same reason I watch women. There is absolutely no difference between them but the men muas need much more courage because of the hate they get. So watching them is much more inspiring. women definitely get more sponsorship because I can only think of a handful of guys who wear makeup and yet most women must wear it in a professional world. most people think makeup belongs to women. Now the trans community is something I'm interested in,I'm not aware of any trans mua on yt. sorry if there are any typos, I don't feel like reading this over, good luck on your essay!

There is one trans I used to follow and for the life of me I can't remember her name. I enjoy watching Jordan Liberty because he leaves all his personal biz out of it and gets to the nitty gritty. I feel like a lot of YTubers have evolved into lifestyle channels talking about everything under the sun. I don't care about your Starbucks holiday cup collection, or your latest furniture buy...just give me the low down on makeup and skincare products. And Liberty does just that. Sorry for that lil side rant but I just looked at my YT subscription feed and out the 50 or so that I follow only 4 them actually posted makeup reviews/tutorials.
As far as women getting far more sponsorships...its very obvious...there are far more women with YT channels than men. Plus, sponsorships are tied in with advertising and quite frankly advertisers are scared of switching up the typical gender roles.

I watch Wayne Goss, Gregory (Gigi) Gorgeous, manny mua, Patrick Starr, petrilude...I really enjoy all of these channels and watch all of them for not only there expertise and advice but also because they are highly entertaining and I find they all offer something a bit different but I love them all! I have actually been on the hunt for some new you tube channels to watch so I will be following this thread!

I forgot to add as well that anyone who knows Gigi ( formerly Gregory ) gorgeous that yes she is trans but I've been watching since before she transitioned so I had to throw her in there because she's honestly my fave just the most entertaining and hilarious videos if there are new videos in my feed I always click hers first!

Thank you so much guys! I have watched Wayne, Jules and Gigi and they inspired me to look at the inequality in sponsorship between the male and female MUAs out there. Despite the gender normal, these guys have massive followings, yet where are their book deals? Look at how successful Wayne's brush collection is. If he wrote a makeup manual, it'd be another huge hit, but he won't get that deal. I just think, despite being men in a female-dominant field, they have a strong following and they deserve better opportunities. I'm off to write this paper, thank you again!

I'm a total Wayne Fangirl. Also love, love, love Enkore Makeup. I Recently discovered RitzyBitz and Monsiieur Alex. So many of YT faves are guys, it's kind of crazy, but I think it's partly to do with there being more educational type tutorials and fewer hauls and reviews type vids. And Ritzy Bitz is into sci fi and cosplay, so that's what drew me in. I agree with Rozberry, sometimes I tune in for the personality of the MUA as much as the makeup info.
