Can leggings be a form of pants?

Is it acceptable for leggings to be worn as pants?

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on this topic and would like to hear what everyone on Beautylish thinks :)

I personally believe that each different style and cut of the leggings will determine this question, as they are all different, but here is usually my golden rule: As long the leggings are not made out of a see through material (including being see through in sunlight) and no "camel toe" is visible, the majority will look good worn as pants.

Yes I agree if they are made of see through material then that's a big no no lol! But if it's a thicker material then yes. Just matters on the material lol.

If they're thicker I wear them as pants lol. But if they're thin I make sure my butt is covered

The ONLY time I personally think leggings are acceptable as pants is with a sweater or longer shirt 😊 otherwise, it can show to much or look trashy (not in all cases so don't take this personally)

At my school it's so common it would be considered weird not to. I do it all the time cause it really makes my legs look slimmer. I've never seen true "see through" leggings before though. So mine are more modest

No. I think you shouldn't wear then unless your shirt goes at least half way down your thigh. I don't want to be able to point out your body!!

I feel like as long as your happy with what your wearing you should be able to wear whatever :) I personally would wear thicker ones as pants but not see through ones :)

I love love love leggings! most of mine are thick enough, but for the thinner ones, I wear a solid black or white pair of leggings underneath to prevent being see through.

I think it is as long as you're comfortable with them and they are a thick material that doesn't sheer out over your bum! And even if they are see through and they know it, hey own it. I completely agree with Janelle, clothes don't define you or your actions.
To be honest the whole "cover the butt thing" seems so odd to me. Every time you wear jeans and a regular tee shirt you can see your butt, and the outline. In skinnies or whatever you wear. In yogas you can see your bum too! I don't think wearing a shirt long enough to be a dress is essential with leggings because technically then you'd have to wear a shirt that reaches mid thigh with nearly every kind of pant! It just seems kind of counterproductive to me, but I understand what people are getting at when they say that! Long shirts for see though leggings, for me personally ( and I think that's what many mean when they day that) but I make sure my leggings are always thick so I can wear them with anything!

I wear leggings to school every other day with my clothes, I see nothing wrong with it, but if I can see you thong through your leggings that's a no no.

I totally agree with Janelle, Isabel and Jacqlyn! Why should you cover your bum when you wear leggings? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Actually, no it doesn't. I've seen tons of girls bend down with leggings and if they're wearing good quality leggings with the right underwear, it doesn't show.

I think it's perfectly fine to wear leggings. I don't understand why people think you have to wear a shirt that covers your butt when you wear leggings? What's wrong with "pointing out" someones body? Everyone has a body and I don't understand why we have to "hide" it and shame it. I don't ever think body shaming is okay and if you are comfortable with what you're wearing then to hell with what other people think..

I really like Harlyns comments simply because I found humor in them! But that's besides the point--- leggings are leggings. NOT. PANTS. If you want to where pant like leggings there is a name for those; which are Jeggings.
Nothing irritates me more when I see somebody wearing leggings as if they were pants, why? Because no matter who you are-- and I don't mean to offend anybody by an means-- but when your wearing something that is pretty much like another layer of skin; fabric so thin that you really don't have to leave much to the imagination for whomever looks at you. Be aware; we see everything. Depending on the material-- we may see unkind things. Also, and this is just my opinion; but it makes you look a little immodest when you have your butt out for everybody to see.
But yes there is exceptions -- like if you are to wear something over them.. And yes it may vary a lot on the material it's self. I prefer to wear shorts over mine, or skirt, etc.

If leggings are see through I always were them with a longer shirt/cardigan/ sweater etc. because I have a a bigger butt then most Europeans here (latina ^^) the girls in my school usually just wear leggings with a t shirt since they have no butt (no offense) so I think it really just depends on how your body is. If I would wear leggings with only a short t shirt it would definitely look trashy no matter how thick they are. If my best friends wear leggings with a short t shirt it looks normal and good.
