What To Wear To A Charity Event?

I'm going to a charity event tonight but have NO CLUE what to wear.
I would say it's semi formal, so like I guess the least dressy option would be dark jeans with a pretty top but I really have no idea what the dress code is so I don't want to over dress or under dress.
So what's the best option to be in the middle of both?

It's always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Is this an event that happens every year? Try searching YouTube or googling for pictures that people have posted from previous years.
